I agree with Barry, except NGC might go AU55. The colors are sure pretty.image

AU55, the reverse is stronger than the obverse. Large date, STATESOFAMERICA variety.

The characteristics are a dead giveaway as to who is selling the coin, and I think the PCGS given grade is higher than I would have graded the piece.

Now that Tom mentions it, it is kinda obvious and I looked it up on their web site. IMO, the coin is not only overgraded, but overpriced for the grade.

I don't care for the "look" of that coin.
  • Wow. The folks at PCGS were in a generous mood that day. But if you think this one is priced too high at $5250, just take a look at this one: Link

I would think that date, grade and variety $2000.00 would be a good price. Bust dimes and quarters have been strong for some time now.

In 1814 we took a little trip, along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip....

    AU58

Oh, and I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, so you can pretty much discount my guess image

If the luster is booming, I wouldnt have a problem with a 55 or a 58. If the luster is not full, then a 53 seems in order.

This coin is tough to grade from a photo, it might be in a 62 holder???

It looks AUish from the photo

Cleaned at one point in it's life. Too many hairlines. Bad photo which washes out some areas which one needs to look at in order to ascertain a grade.

Icky toning. Don't buy it. EF-40, if it's not BB'd.

The "STATESOF" is a very scarce variety for that date. PCGS has recognized only 5 in all grades combined, with a pair of AU58's being the highest graded. I don't claim to know how high the price is, but thought it should be pointed out that the coin is not, by any means, a common/generic issue.
