Best Way to Sell this '60 Mantle? - please help

I'm looking to sell this 1960 Topps Mantle. It's currently in an SGC "84 NM / 7" flip.

My options:
1. Put it on ebay as is
2. Crack it and submit to PSA
3. Submit to PSA as crossover with 7 minimum grade

I'm looking to get maximum dollar.

See below for hi-res scans.

THANKS!

Have ya done any ebay research on the sales of the card with respect to SGC vs. PSA?

IMO, that's a really nice Nm card and should sell.

I would guess the prevailing opinion would be that it would sell best in a PSA holder?

Nice card, good luck whatever you do.

There's not much on ebay right now (active or completed auctions).

My worry is that if I crack it, PSA may grade it a "6". Though, from what I've read crossover submittals are usually a waste of time/money.

I want a profit of $450. Will the cost to crack/submit to PSA end up costing me more in fees than what it can make up in profit?

I would sell it as is. On high dollar, big name cards I don't think there is mucj variation between the grading Co.'s.

I think you would waste your time and money by trying to cross it over. On commons or low pop stars in the 70's the crack and sub may prove beneficial, but not on a Mantle. If PSA graded it a 6, you would then be upset and have to resubmit it either to OSA again or back to SGC and hope for the 7.

Due to your scans and corner showing, I know you're not a message board newbie. You likely aren't an eBay newbie either. Sell it in the SGC holder. With your scans(leave the corner scans out) and likely good feedback, an SGC 7 of a '60 mantle will probably do as well as a PSA 7 Mantle.

Did you mean you wanted the card to bring 450$?

I think the SMR on the card is around 450$? What do you expect the card to sell for?

Stone, yes -- I'd like to sell it for $450.

Zef, I am actually a Bulletin Board newbie ... literally just got back into collecting. That said, I'm fairly savvy at posting pics and operating a scanner image

Thanks for your input guys --- sounds like selling it "as is" is the way to go.

    Good luck!

The card is well centered - a major plus, IMO, for a Nm card.

    As it goes for me?

This is a VERY nicely centered card.

I would play the centering up BIG TIME in my listing.

Do NOT put the close-up of the corners in the listing.

If I was going to keep the card, I would want it in a
PSA holder. BUT, I fear that PSA might find a "crease"
or some other defect that would hurt your fast sale.

I would sell it in the current holder. If you have the
time, try for a BIN at about $200 more than you
want for it. You might use the best-offer thingy,
but with-or-without, you should still get offers.
If you do not get action quick, you can start the
    lowering game.

Also, if you have time, you might try a 10-day auction.
Sometimes folks will want you to "end-early" and you
    might get a high-offer surprise.

I have seen a lot of these on eBay with substantially
better red-zone surfaces, BUT your centering looks almost "superb."
The color photo looks nicely registered. Too bad about
the red surface stuff. Just play up the CENTERING; it is
super compared to most that show up on eBay.

If you have the right blahblahblah in your listing, you
will probably get more $$$ than you expect.

EDITED TO ADD: If you go auction, make sure your reserve is not much
lower than what you want for the card, just in case.

I would try to cross the card over. It is $15? plus your shipping. I am sure a PSA 7 would bring more than those costs compared to a SGC. Do an ebay search and see if both cards have been sold recently.

my worry is that it may cross over to a PSA 6. The corners seem a bit soft and the surface has those minor print flaws. That said, I am new to grading and by NO means an expert.

    That looks pretty darn nice.

The PSA plastic collectors will probably only bid up to 6 money anyways. Spend the dough and cross it over.

I would have listed it as a buy it now in the past 2 days for the .20 cent listing special. even with the listing special over I'd do a buy it now for the price you want. it'll cost about $4 bucks to list it. crossing it to psa with postage/insurance each way and grading fees is going to be $20 plus.

Very nice card. Tough call on the grading...it's probably a PSA 6 or could be a PSA 7, but the centering is marvelous. You could always submit to PSA and take a shot for a few bucks. One thing for sure - it has zero chance of a PSA 8. For the value of the card I think it's worth a shot - If the card goes through as a PSA 7, you should get more money for the card. Good luck!

I'd sell it as is with a buy-it-now. I wouldn't play up the centering - as it looks like a tilt cut to me (more obvious on the back). You should get $400 easy, $450 maybe. Best of luck.

When you send a card in for a crossover , you indicate what you want the minimum to be. So if you indicate a 7 and they disagree that it is lower, PSA sends the card back in the SGC holder.

    Do what Bosox said.

I would not send it to PSA personally...you think it might come back as a 6 and I think you might be correct. Why take the chance....

By golly you are right !!

It might well come back from PSA (MC). Even though it is not severe.
I missed it last night, but it is obvious in the daylight.

    Just say: "Great eye-appeal."

EDITED: The 20-cent listing special is NOT still on today at eBay.
I put up some one-cent auctions and saw the 20-cent fee, so I
thought it was still on. Sorry.

    Thought I'd provide an update....

    Sold the card last week.

Did the 10-day "Buy it Now" with "Best Offer Available" auction. Listed it at $549.

With 2 days left, got an offer for $495. Decided to jump on it.

This offer far exceeded my hope of getting $450. Thanks for all of the great feedback guys --- I wouldn't have been as successful without you!

Congrats on the offer, that was a terrific card that looks tremendous no matter the grade. Happy that you got more than you were expecting, though. image
