Update Received the coin -Ugly 1966 PCGS MS65 Kennedy

Ugly Coin

Will I have been looking for a 1966 Kennedy half for some time. Will I came by this wiith a BIN of 15.00- o-kay it's got a problem and will have to wait and see if it's all that bad. But it was cheap and as long as they don't send a SMS coin I will be happy.

Dan

Update, I received the coin ( will Wife did at home ). No bait and switch. Wife says obv. is toned ugly but rev. is white. This may be may first crack and dip. I have 4 free gradings so it may become one of the four.

  • who would even bother to get such a coin slabbed?

the submission fee is more than the coin's value!!

Difficult coin to locate in non-SMS (PCGS) MS66. Possibly the submitter thought it had a shot.

  • Dan,

In your High Sea's Halves comments, you mention "I rather have a pure set and lower numbers then buy a cheap coin just for higher numers."

Could you explain that in more detail? Maybe I'm just dense, but I don't get it. How would you get a higher number for less money than a lower number coin?

I have been a collector for over mumbly-five years. I learn something new every day.
  • That is in reference to the 2005 SF coins, I'm one of a few that don't think they belong in a circ set. You can get a 68 05 cheap but that is not the case with the non SF coin.

A 1966 in 65 is not a 15.00 coin most are two or three times that. I got it as filler and maybe a keeper if it's nice. With a BIN of 15.00 I could not pass it up.

you made a good purchase, from the picture it has some imo undesirable tone but it is quite well struck from the obv image.
  • Yes the toning looks Black but I have gotten one's just like that pic. that were real nice and not as dark as pic. showed. Will see when it shows up. I have 4 free grading's coming if it is a nice strike and a soild 65 then mayby it will be time for a crack and dip.

It was part of a bulk order.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

The problem is, if you crack and dip, the coin might gain the dreaded "SMS" tag.
