Bob....what is the hardest Mel Stottlemyre card to find ?
It is interesting that Banks is not in the Topps 55 Stamps ( so far) ,61 Dice ( so far), 67 Discs, 67 Punch Outs, 67 Stand Ups, 68 Action Stickers, 68 Discs, 68 3Ds or 69 4 in 1s ( I think). He is on the Cubs 69 Team Poster, but not in the 69 Supers, 69 Deckle, or 69 Deccals. Not sure about 69 Stamps.
He does have a Topps 56 Pin, but is not in the 56 Hocus Focus. He does have a Topps 60 Tatoo , a 61 Magic Rub Off, a 61 Stamp, a 62 BB Buck, 62 Stamp, a 63 Peel Off, a 64 Tattoo, and a 64 Stand Up; but no 64 Coin ( I think) or 64 Giant. There is a 65 Embossed and 66 Rub Off
Sorry--wish I did. Never even seen it. I have to think it would qualify as the toughest Banks card.
I was surprised that Ernie was not in more of the Topps test sets. It's not like he wasn't a superstar during the '60s when most of these were issued. All of the Venezuelan Topps cards will be hard to find, but not impossible.
There is a picture of a 1966 Punch out in the 2006 SCD Standard Catalog listings for that "set". But, it is not the Banks...as I recall it is Koufax/Yastremski. That one I have seen offered for $ 15 K in the past.
I sold a PSA 5 '60 Ven Banks last year for $150...outbid at $7K on that Yaz/Koufax when it came up for auction two years ago. The winner probably would have gone much higher, so I don't think I had a chance.
