It's like the dot-com bubble busting all over again

Man, am I ever glad I wasn't the one to buy the first one of these for $30,000. I remember Beckett making a big deal of the sale of the first one. Talk about a loss on your investment.

    Wow bs

Are you telling me people actually paid 30K for that card?

    Incredible. And now, 2K?

I don't think I would even pay that much!

thats cause like every other BGS graded these days (at least serial numbers in the 4000000) are 10's or 9.5.....I only collect the old school BGS labels---they were WAY TUFFER BACK THEN!

This is very true. You also have to recognize that Bonds isn't exactly the exhaulted hero he was following his 73 HR season. Plus, he's now passed Ruth and nobody believes he'll pass Aaron...so that combined with the other things makes this card far less desirable.
  • I love the complete absence of pronouns in the item description.

"When you take a look at the names that Bonds is passing you then realize the kind of class Bonds is in. Bonds also currently has 507 stolen bases making Bonds the ONLY player with 500 homeruns and 500 stolen bases and Bonds already has 719 homeruns not just 500."

It's almoist like hearing Rickey Henderson talk about himself.

Rickey thinks that the third-base coaches' decision to hold Rickey was a slap in the face to Rickey's speed. When Rickey wants to steal, Rickey steals. Rickey is done answering questions for today. Rickey thanks you.

    Gotta love Rickey
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

Looking for Al Hrabosky and any OPC Dave Campbells (the ESPN guy)
  • hmmm, why sell it now when his value isnt very high. If the price is this low, why not sell it next season when bonds will likely break aaron's record.

Perhaps the seller thinks bonds WONT play next year and is jumping ship now.
  • I dont think it has anything to do with anything but propaganda for card pricing and interest in cards. I remember the $60,000 Michael Jordans, $100,000 Tiger Woods, $20,000 MarkMcGwires, etc etc. It wouldnt amaze me to see that all of these cards were originally purchased by PSA, Beckett, etc just to drive up interest in grading. Thats another reson I never purchase any 1980's card as being one of the only PSA 10's, Beckett 10's or SGC 98 or 100's because once one garners a top amount, everyone and their uncle goes into their closet to pull out 20 for grading to try and pull the same number............
