eBay idiot: Please help!

I sold something on eBay...and the person who won it sent me a "PayPal Money Order" or whatever crap it's called. After I politely asked if I could be paid by Money Order or a Personal Check, and explained that I don't have a PayPal account and I received this:

<< <i>Explain is fine I guess, whatever.

If are either flat-out against having a PayPal account, you may prefer to
just accept the second highest bid, $16.50, vs. my $17.00. I never pay
except throught PayPal, previous sellers who want money orders, have had no
problem with the "PayPal" money order payment described by that URL link I
sent. If you don't I don't care, I don't send paper checks of any kind to
strangers, a policy you may want to consider for yourself. There is nothing
that makes you more vulnerable than paper checks. I can find out your
social security, address, mother's maiden name, and probably even your belt
size just through paper checks.

Having said all that, as you have a 100% feedback, I suspect that your 100%
feedback is more important to you than the $.50 lost to the second highest
bidder. Thus I officially let you out of the transaction so you may pursue
the next bidder.

All best...later...
>>

Under what category should I report this person as...? They did not comply with my listing terms that are clearly stated, they used feedback extortion, they did not follow through with the transaction...any more? How would I report it to eBay? What would you do if you are in my shoes? Thanks for your help! (Sorry to be a little off-topic image)

Well, you could report him as a NPB? Do you have to be 18 to get a Paypal account? Hope this situation resolves well for you. You could tell him you're a YN. That might make him feel bad for being kindof rude in the email.

You are supposed to be 18 to have an account on ebay I believe. I seem to recall someone getting NARU'ed for their age (the account was under their father I think but they were using it.....it was all resolved but I think that was when I heard ebay guidelines are 18yo).

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • For .50 I would not worry about it...block him and tell us all his name. Sell to the next highest bidder...Life's too short.

Yes, the account is under my parent(s). I'm still amazed that the person could still just make up their own terms like that! Now come on. I was patient with the three-four previous emails and I get this crap image Terms clearly stated.

  • You can file a NPB. There is an option for "mutually agree to NOT complete the transaction". So he doesn't get a hit. Personally I would (did) get a PayPal account. If you won't get one I would write the guy and suggest you mutually agree to not complete the transaction and give each other positives. I'm assuming you made it clear in your auction you don't take PayPal.

I'd send the clown one more email that states he agreed to your clearly spelled out terms when he bid.

If he fails to pay via your terms you will file a NPB and ultimately appropriate feedback will be posted.

He clearly was using feedback extortion in his email to you - this is a serious violation of ebay rules. Once you report him, I don't think ebay will allow him to leave you any feedback and he most likely will be naru'd. I agree that you should have a paypal account but you clearly stated you don't accept Paypal. A$$h0les that make up their own rules should be barred anyway. Plus ebay will credit the listing and final value fees if you make it official.

  • Greetings,

This person must be -well, i won't go into name calling, but I would tell him its not the .50 its the principle of it period!!! Why did he bid if he isn't following your payment instructions?
    I'd say good riddance.

What is a PayPal money order? And, how about a link to the auction?

I'd give him one more chance, stating your terms... if he doesn't pay, neg him. His email clearly indicates feedback extortion, and I'd like to believe that you could have a retaliatory neg. left. Can we see the auction to see what your terms say, exactly?

Of course, don't you dare mention your age--it can't possibly help. And yes, I, too, had an account for many years while under 18 (in fact, over 6 years--I got my account just before I turned 12)... my age never came up once.

I agree with Jeremy. Explain to him his violation, particularly if the email is on the eBay system as the evidence is irrefutable then. Give him the opportunity to settle up according to the stated terms of the sale and within a week or so. If he fails to follow through appropriately, nail him. You as the listing seller stated the terms and his bidding clearly assumed those terms as acceptable. He wants to change them? Sure, he can ask if it is ok (some sellers don't mind an altered arrangement) but you are in no way required to go along with them.....even if eBay and its shareholders (including yours truly) would prefer his way.

Well, I see this isn't the first time your bidder has tried to pull this:

Just send him an email explaining that under the terms of eBay you are obligated to hold the item for him for 7 days.

Then, 7 days after the auction, file an "Unpaid item dispute" saying he didn't pay.

Wait the required 7 days for him to respond, then close the dispute and get your final fee back and he gets an "unpaid item strike". 3 of those and he gets kicked off of eBay.

    Then relist the item.

  • I agree with most points here, his crap about not sending a check is bull he can send a money order just fine. And life is too short to worry about 50 cents but then again sometimes the principle outweighs the $$$. I would send him another email wait the seven days then report him! Thanks for the heads up on another blocked bidder.

Why not take paypal??? It does make buyers more comfortable.

The seller is correct about getting a lot of personal info via a check, but I'd be willing to bet you could get lots of info from him as well just through E-Bay. Phone number will get you a home address and so on.

Suggest to the buyer a postal MO. No trace there. As you point out, you have laid out terms properly and the buyer obviously did not read or want to adhere to the terms.

Another suggestion for you: why make insurance optional? You just open yourself up.

All that said, the buyer is a jerk who apparently has a history of pulling this type of prank. He's on my blackball list!

    Good Luck!!!imageimage
