Can submissions not be in toploaders?

Preparing some cards for a submission and was just reviewing PSA's instructions re: submission procedure. It clearly states that cards are not accepted if in screwdowns or toploaders. Is this a fact? Surely cards can be sumbitted if in toploaders....has anybody had any experience with this?

PSA prefers them to be in Card Saver I's. If they are in another format, I think PSA explicitly relieves itself [in the T&C's] of any liability incurred because of damage resulting from removing the card from the non-recommended holder.
Top-loaders are usually accepted, but if the cards get hurt, PSA is not
responsible. I have used top-loaders many times, and not had a problem;
that does not mean that you will not have a problem.
Better to follow their instructions as perfectly as you can.

I've only submitted T3 sized cards in toploaders.
How many cards are you submitting?
I'm assuming you don't have any cardsavers?

Looking for 81-84 Topps Stickers in PSA 9 or better, 81 Topps Scratch offs, 83 Topps Fold outs in PSA 8 or better, 83 Fleer Stamps and 81/86 Fleer Star Stickers in PSA 9 or better.

It seems to me that there's more risk of damaging a card inserting it into a Card Saver than a top loader, but... they must have their reasons.
.
Mike.....you are correct, I don't have any cardsavers and the lone card shop here doesn't carry any. Typically I do have some lying around for my rare submission, but not this time.
Think I will take my chances with the toploaders as I want to get these in before the set registry special for the month expires, and then get them back before I leave on holiday next month.

PSA's concern is not with you inserting the card on your end. Their exposure is with removing the card on theirs. They cut the cs1's. Top loaders are more rigid and do not cut as clean as the CS1's. This is my take on it.
Another thing to consider is that cards shift around in top loaders but not in CS1's.

By the way, you can order card savers from PSA I believe... I know they have a submission supplies phone number.

Call me Mr. Obvious, but you can buy Card Saver I's cheap on Ebay. I bought 500 for like 20 bucks. If anyone needs a few let me know and I'll send some your way. The fact that PSA removes liability from damage should be all you need to know to use what they ask. Why screw around?

As someone who changed about 50 cards out of old toploaders into new ones over the course of a day or two a couple of months ago, I will vouch for "sore", for sure.

Actually, I believe it has been confirmed many times on the board that the Card Savers are indeed cut by PSA to remove the cards properly for grading. That is why PSA wants you to use Card Savers because it saves them time and effort removing your cards and it gets your order processed and graded quicker which leads to less complaining about how long it takes to grade your submission. Just my 2 cents.

Actually, it's the opposite. To my knowledge they are NOT cut out of the card savers. I have had several cards returned (min grade, recolored, min size, etc.) that were sent back in the same card saver they were sent in, and the card saver was not cut.

I just did a search on eBay for Card Saver and found no 500 for $20 deals. In fact, I didn't find any offering of 500 or less Card Saver I in which the price was less than 7 cents apiece. If you can sell me 500 Card Saver I for $25 postage paid, I'll take them.
I recently submitted bulk orders totaling about 200 cards and I was wishing that PSA would return my Card Savers so that I could save some money and re-use them. Anyone know if there's any chance of that happening?

Robert, you are correct. The PSA Grading Process Video clearly shows the grader pulling the card out of the card saver manually, then putting it back when he is done to send it to the next department.

The 100 for $4.75 has a $5 postage charge, so that's almost 10 cents apiece.
