Will ANR be offering a major collection of early copper later this year?

I thought I read this somewhere, but now I am spacing and cannot remember if it was ANR or Superior who is planning to auction off a major collection of early copper later this year. Hopefully I am not imagining this or dreamed it up (and, no, I don't dream about QDB at night image ). Does anyone know?

  • I did read that too - maybe saw it in latest issue of P-W. Superior was supposed to have a large copper offering in the Spring Long Beach Show - I understand that didn't occur and the copper will be showing up in the fall show. Don't know about ANR plans. I'm trying to determine if some major collections will go to auction Chris M has been selling the Kolpald coins and Wright coins - maybe the some of these will end up in the fall auctions. A few half cent collectors have "sold" their collections and nice early copper is going for a lot of money - maybe a nice collection or two will hit the block.

I probably saw it in the recent issue of PW. I need to see if I can find it later tonight.

Please update us all, Longacre. Thanks...Mike

  • The blip only mentioned that both ANR and Superior were auctioning major copper "collections". There was supposed to be a large copper offering in Superiors Spring Long Beach sale - that didn't happen and only 3 large cents were up for sale. I'm assuming that the misfire in the spring has been moved to the fall.

image Hopefully someone from ANR can give us an indication of how major a collection is hitting the block. I assume Superior is caught up with the due diligence process for its sale and is not available for comment.

Will there be any blue toned material available?

  • Thankfully, most of the focus and attention toward blues seem to be directed towards the IHCs. In early copper these would not be kosher - for most of us. Although, green LCs do have a following with some collectors. Nice tans and browns rule here !!
