A crack on a Morgan

tizofthetizofthe Posts: 1,358 ✭✭✭
I dont know that much about Morgans but I received a Morgan that has a hairline crack on the reverse from the A on America that extends for about 1 to 1 1/2 inches. Can anyone tell me if this is a die crack or?

Probably, it it is raised. If it is incuse it's a planchet flaw.

You would need to show pics.....There are many different instances where there is an "anomoly" (sp?) where it may be a crack, gouge, break or other cause that has created a disturbance in the fields or device of a coin.
This is a very dumb ass thread. - Laura Sperber - Tuesday January 09, 2007 11:16 AM image

Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.

I have tried in the past to take pictures of coins and they are so bad that you wold never see it. However it is very visable and a deffinate crack. I hate to say this but I ran my fingernail though it and it is a nice size crack. What would cause this. I also have another coin that has the same type of crack just on the Obverse. Does this lower the value of the coin?

Is this a VAM/Die Crack or is it the planchet itself?

  • if your fingernail got caught in the crevaces of the crack then it could just be a deep scratch

If you can put your fingernail, or anything for that matter, inside the "crack" then it's not a die crack. Like Amanda said early, if it's a die crack the line will be raised above the fields of the coin like a linear lump. If the line is deep into the coin then you're dealing with a scratch, planchet flaw, gouge, etc...

If it's post mind damage it will adversly affect the value of your coin.
