I just got My one Conder in from ANR yesterday. It isn't as high a grade as some of the beauties you folks have been posting, but I was tickled to get it and for less than half of my max bid as well.

There are three varieties of this design issued for this merchant. One is scarce, and the other two are extremely rare maybe 8 to 10 known. I've never seen a collection that had all three of them. With the acquition of this token I now have all three.

I also received 16 pieces from the July 11th DNW sale. No pictures of those yet, again not high grade but several very rare varieties.

Finally I received 6 tokens from Bill McKivor a couple days ago. These were from the sale of Dr Richard Doty's reference collection. (Dr Doty is Curator of the National Numismatic Collection in the Smithsonian.) Four piece are just lower grade coins I needed for my collection, The fifth was a rare variety I needed, by it turned out Dr Doty had misattributed it. The sixth piece is a proof piece that Dr Doty used as a plate coin in his book The Soho Mint & the Indusrialization of Money. It is a Middlesex 181, struck by Matthew Boulton to mark the recovery of King George II from temporay madness in 1789. It was also used to show the British authorites the quality that the Soho mint could do in an attempt to win a coinage contract to produce copper coins for the crown. The piece is common, but this one is struck in "Barton's metal" which is unlisted for this piece. (Barton's metal is silver clad gold plated copper.) No picture but I'll try and post one later.
  • Wow!

    Your Conders are so nice!

What dazzles me is thta how it can keep its fineness for over 300 years, and still in beautiful condition!

Just over 200 years, not 300, Kid. But yeah- you're right. Some of them are in amazing condition. That is no doubt due to the fact that these were widely collected in their own time, so many got put away when they were new.
