New minor DDO - a 1973 S 1c

I found this a few weeks back while searching 'pocket change' cents that my family had been accumulating since the late 70's. Both Billy Crawford and John Wexler have seen it. Crawford said it was a possible DDO - get a 2nd opinion. So I sent it to John Wexler and he has attributed it as a 1973 S WDDO-001 3/3 - his first and only 1973 S doubled die.
It is nothing major, except that it is the first identifed DDO for a 1973 S cent in 33 years. It is a little like the 1963 D 3/3 DDO cent (FS 025.8) - but obviously not as strong. The bump of metal on the inner loop of the lower part of the 3 is clear. But there is also a light bulge on the back side of the 3 (barely visible in the photo).

So - for you variety hunters - there is a reason to look at 1973 S cents.

1969s WCLR-001 counterclash
your description will do.
Send it to ANACS to be slabbed as a "Discovery Piece"...include letter from Wexler.
I did this with a 73-S Silver Ike Proof DDO-006.
Happy Hunting!

I would have been disappointed
I'm gonna be forced to post my 65RD soon in replace of the 65RB, when I get it's picture taken some day. (Yes, you, Mgoodm3...)

<< <i>I personally do not see that as a listable doubled die...but then again, I haven't seen the coin either. I tend to believe this example is pushing it a bit. >>
That was pretty much Billy Crawford's opinion, too. That it might very well be a doubled die, but too minor to know for sure and to list. However, many of the RPMs and and minor doubled dies listed on Coppercoins.com and other variety publications are not earthshaking - but are still listed. I have a few of the 'extra bar under the L' of liberty varieties that are less visible than this 1973 S. So I figured it was worth a try in getting it listed.

Nah, those things are "common" and we all know what they look like.
