This is my buylist. I'll happily pay anyone for these; whether in raw form or graded. Buy these low, as Mulder has had the worst season so far in his major league career this season, so if you see them the dealer wants to practically give them away!

Actually I was in Cleveland for the National two years ago with two buddies and had a blast. Saw a couple of Indians games, enjoyed a couple of nights out, etc. and the city was nicer than I thought it would be--at least the areas I saw. I do regret not being able to attend this year--simply too far away--but look forward to going back to Cleveland next year.

Hey!!! Why no love for Cleveland? I have lived in Cleveland my whole life and there is plenty to do here. Besides for the sun and beautiful women, SOCAL has nothing on Cleveland.....we have snow! LOL If any of you come out....make sure you plan to go to the pro football hall of fame which is about 40 minutes from the national in Canton.
Flying down tomorrow night in time for Opening Day at Del Mar Race Track---"Where the turf meets the surf"!! Then it's vacation time for next two weeks there visiting family. I don't miss that 57 FWY traffic since moving to Vancouver,WA!! Traffic here is that you still have one lane available.

I'll definetly be interested. The guy I'm going with(as well as myself) are basically sports fans. Any places to hit up, like places owned by sports figures or interesting place to visit would be of great help. We were originally going to take this trip ehhh our senior year of high school(3 years ago) but 2 close call car accidents changed that(Him getting T-boned) and myself being in the front passenger of a T-bonee. Anyways, I've never been to Cleveland and outside of Drew Carey and Jim Thome I know very little. lol, help me to convince my buddy to go!

I was kidding about Cleveland guys! I was pleasantly surprised by how much there was to do there, and how easy it was to get around. And Jacobs Field was incredible. I just wish they would move it around a bit, so we can see different cities instead of the same ones all the time. Boston would be great!
Carew29- I was in Vancouver a few weeks ago, and the traffic jam rivaled anything we have in LA. It was parked.
John- yes, and you're missed. See you at the show. PM me if you get a chance.

Where are you coming from? Road trip or flight? Tell your buddy Lebron has agreed to stay here so Cleveland can't be that bad! We have the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and Football Hall of Fame both within 45 minutes of the national show. The Browns training camp is in Berea, Ohio, which is technically where the National is held (the IX center) so you might be able to catch training camp practices. Alot of sports bars and house of Blues, Hard Rock etc. in Downtown Cleveland. Cleveland is right off of Lake Erie...some nice Beaches. Plus a couple hours driving away from Detroit and Pittsburgh. The College football hall of fame is in South Bend, Indiana (Notre Dame) which is about a 4-5 hour drive away. So alot depends on were you are coming from.
Bachelor party that weekend in Vegas .... BUT ... gonna party all night Sat and get back into LA Sun morning and plan on driving straight down to Anaheim. Hopefully the sleep deprivation won't lead me into any stupid purchases.....
Of course the other option is to skip out of work on Wed and check it out. I've never been to National -- just getting back into collecting after a 15 year layoff.

So the national is in Anaheim this year? I remember going to a national show some years ago that was in anaheim.
When are the dates? How much for tickets?
In my immediate circle of friends, I have no one interested in this hobby. I would like to meet some of you guys there.
The free stuff is kind of nice. However, I noticed that the dealers don't go down in prices even when I haggle for multiple item purchases. With ebay around, a national is less vital than it was years ago in completing collections or getting some rarer cards.
It sounds like a fun day, but I doubt I will find things like a raw MINT Mattingly donruss rookie that I can send in in hopes of getting a 9 or 10.

Not me, I will be in Cleveland next year without a doubt. The Jersey Shore to Southern Cal. is a bit much for a over hyped and over priced show. We all know everybody goes for the beers, food, and laughs anyway. So..... DRIVING to Cleveland for beers, food, and laughs is on the agenda next year

I completely agree. I was actually thinking about flying out for this until work threw me a curveball, but even if I was free I don't think I would fly cross country for a card show. Especially these days, when you mostly find stacks of EX-MT raw at NM-MT prices, and graded cards priced either above SMR or Ebay.

I find this sentiment interesting. I don't seem to have nearly the trouble that others do finding nice raw stuff. Sure it's hard and maybe one of 10 dealers will have it these days, but in 2 + years of getting back into the hobby I have built 2 vintage sets comprised mostly from raw finds.

I agree with Ron. I know a few guys that make a living buying raw at shows. Also, many dealers will stockpile there raw cards just for the National. Its there and so many dealers put there exmt stuff in the front row hoping somebody will buy it. Dealers know the raw stuff will sell anytime and for partically any price.
Maybe I should clarify - there is often some quality raw inventory at shows (especially big shows like the National), but it's a lot tougher now to find gradeable raw cards than it was 5 years ago...and that stands to reason. More and more people are trying to "make a living off of raw", and a large percentage of vintage cards have already made their way into holders now that grading has been established for some time. The exact percentage has been discussed and debated here before, but I can tell you this - I used to feel like I was the only one at most shows looking for bargains to grade, and now while I am going through piles of barely NM raw looking for a diamond in the rough, it seems like 10 guys are over my shoulder trying to do the same thing.
And, if a dealer happens to have a card with 2 sharp corners, he wants PSA 8 pricing for it. Just about every dealer is now fully aware of grading, and would seldom leave money on the table by selling you a raw card and letting you make the profit in grading it. Ever get that feeling - "Wow, how did this guy miss this one? It's a lock PSA 8/9/10 whatever..." Believe me, there's a reason why that card isn't holdered, and you'll discover that reason when you send the card in.
Not to mention that at shows like the National and the Fort, most of the quality raw is snapped up by other dealers before the doors ever open to the public. It's been that way for some time, and it further reduces your odds of finding gradeable raw cards.
