I don' check them at all, cuz I don't have any submissions in right now. But when I do, I check them way too much. I agree that my grades seem to post in the evening.
To me, opening up a package from PSA recreates all the thrills I had as a kid of opening up a pack of cards. Seeing numbers on a computer screen is decidely less exciting for me - so I don't check online.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
Every 11.7 seconds. This accounts for time when I am sleeping too.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
everytime i sit down at the computer, it's the first thing i do.. then from there, go to the message boards.. then when i get to the message boards the first one i open is this one, and i see a thread about checking grades so i figure, what the hell, why not try again? so i open a new window just for the PSA home page, so i can check for my grades again..
This whole "random-in, first-out" grading process is seriously flawed. I just don't get it, I see BRM just made a new thread about this...
Interesting all my cards were checked in on 6/30 and my CC was charged that day, but no grades yet. Maybe thier fiscal year ends 6/30? Why don't they charge your CC once they have actually done the work. My roofer didn't charge me a dime til he was done with my roof, guy that built my fence....same thing. Wish I could bill up front for the work I do. Hello work? Yes, I'll be coming in next week, I'd like to have a check today. What's that? You won't pre-pay me for the work I'll do a week or two or six from now? PSA does it...I don't understand the problem...
I see people with subs waiting since 5/31 for 50 commons, that's just sad when other people are getting grades in 3 days that arrived a week+ after the special ended. Yes, I realize they are postmarked on time, I did the same thing, but mine got their on 6/30. I don't expect that my grades should be received before these guys with their stuff rec'd on 5/31...6/8 etc. Ridiculous. I don't get the rhyme or reason to how your submission ends up on the graders desk.
Anyways...
Sorry for the rant, to answer your question, I check about 4 times / day after my CC has been charged.

I bet there's a couple factors at work.
1) If their big submitters send in a large bulk order then I'm guess they go the front of the line. It sucks, but I can't really argue with that.
2) If they have cards submitted under anything other than the 5$ special kicking around, they probably do those as well. The 5$ special orders are probably only worked on when there's a lag. Again, it sucks, but as with #1 I'd have a hard time objecting to it.
3) I've heard (I don't know where) that the graders have 'some discretion' in what they grade at any particular time. Maybe they have some kind of quota, or commission set up, which predisposes them to grading the 'easy orders' first? I don't know, but it seems possible. Also, I wonder if they don't have 'modern guys' and 'vintage guys', and the vintage guys only slum into the modern guys' domain if they have nothing else to do. So, if you have a ton of modern orders, but only the usual stream of vintage orders, then the modern orders just get backlogged.
It would be nice if someone came on here and at least explained it. I don't think anyone really cares what the answer is, or is going to lobby to hard to have the system changed, but it's just a little irritating when you don't understand why something works the way it does.
That being said, I'm sure this system-- however flawed it may seem to the consumer-- developed the way it did for a reason. I doubt that PSA just decided one day 'let's start screwing with random submittors, just to get their dander up'. It may not make any sense to us, but there's likely a good reason why this current system is in place.

Oh, I bet someone would care if PSA came on and said it's completely random, or if they said it's last in first out. There'd be no end to that thread. I'm sure that no matter what they said, there'd be someone to give them an earful. Not defending PSA. I'd love to hear their explananation, too. I'm just saying -- people would care.
This has been discussed before - but if, at the end of the day, everyone gets their cards graded within the time period pre-specified by PSA, it should matter less whether or not their cards were graded in a timely manner so long as PSA grades their cards by the time they are obligated to.

Just got all excited for nuthin'!! Punched in my submission # and got all excited when it started running accross the screen....then I realized it was my previous submission # that was posted 2 weeks ago!!! UUGGHH!! Still waiting on this one.
Does PSA wait to charge your credit card until the cards have been graded? I would imagine they would have to just in case there is a card that is an ungradable card.

Dont know if there is a reason for this or not.
