$59,000 for a card shop: A Bargain?

Check out the guy selling his shop on eBay.

California Shop Sells on eBay

Comments

  • Good morning:
I don't think it was wise to sell his store and inventory via one auction on ebay especially Considering the fact that last year my sales from a 2 month selling spree (in which I sold cards and items in my collection that I did not want) via ebay was more than he got for the whole store.

Truly looks like a good lot to pick apart and probably double the investment on, if ya had 6 months or so to list everything individually.

wouldn't the 52 mantle alone brought 10-20% of the hammer price on this? even at 'authentic' wouldn't it yield 10k?

it looks like a nice collection to just browse thru and enjoy.

    Thanks,

It's so ugly, it hurts looking at that card.

it's not the best that is for sure. i still think it would bring 6-8k given the right promotion.

Hope the bidder knows he's not getting the 52 Topps Mantle.

There's a little line buried in the description that says the Mantle will only be included if bidding reaches $71,000.

Is that OK per ebay rules?

If someone has the space and the time, this seems like breaking down and selling this collection could be both (a) profitable and (b) fun. Of course, you'd be left with tons of worthless garbage at the end to dispose of.

the 1/1s he had listed alone would bring some good change...look how much time he had to put in it to list it the way he did. but this is the 2nd go around since the first purchaser bailed on him.

i noticed the line about 71k and the mantle...buyer may not be too happy about that one.

it did take a long time to load the auction page....whew!!!!

    Thanks,

    David (LD_Ferg)

As long as they disclose the amount it takes to get the extra item it is.

If they had said if bidding reaches and certain(undisclosed) amount I will include a 52 topps Mantle, they would be in violation of Ebay rules.

I had trouble opening the file at work.

I'll try again when I get home.

    One million inventory?

If you take a 120$ case of 1990 UD and price guide out all the cards, it comes to $51,384.22!

I was going to bid but the cheesy MIDI file made me close the browser.

So it was valued at $1.25 million and he got $59K, sounds like what a dealer typically pays to a collector. I'd find it hard to believe that the buyer will get anything close to the quoted price in real market value. If you go by book value we're all paper millionaires. Maybe if the building is included. There are some nice cards in there, I like the Favre/Manning dual NFL shield especially, but it'll take a lot of volume to recoup that investment, even counting the 13" TV. A PSA 1 Mantle is about $2500-3500, so saving the extra $12K it'd take to get that bonus is a good move. Still, good luck to the winner, it'll be a fun time sorting all that stuff out.
    WANTED:
2005 Origins Old Judge Brown #/20 and Black 1/1s, 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25
2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs

    Nothing on ebay

I agree it would have been a blast.

I actually had this auction in my watch list, you know, in case I hit the Powerball Saturday night. No luck so I had to let it go.

There were some pretty nice 1 of 1's. Not the generic kind, but auto/game used 1 of 1's of Jordan, Kobe, Mays, Ripken, Pujols, D Wade, etc.

Plus, there were 20+ autographs of Jordan, Mantle, Williams, and Dimaggio with COA's. That would probably bring some good change. So would the dozen or so Mantles.

$59,000K? I don't know. There was an awful lot of stuff. I would've been fun.

And hey, the tv was color!!

I seriously wanted to stab myself after listening to that crap music for 20 seconds or so. I had to close my browser window with 1300+ pictures still left to load.
