Database software for Coin Collecting

Does anyone here (dealers maybe?) use database software for maintaining their coin collection. I just bought FileMaker Pro to perform some database functions for personal reasons, such as home inventory, and it's pretty easy to get the hang of so I made some database stuff for work as well.

More specifically, does anyone here have a template for Coin Collecting for FileMaker Pro, MS Excel, or MS Access?

I can see myself making a template for FileMaker Pro but don't want to do it if somebody has already invented the wheel.

I install and certify aircraft visual landing aids and recently created an excel spreadsheet for setting up one piece of gear. I worked on it for DAYS and found a published formula that was incorrect, which took DAYS to find and fix.

So anyway, I send it to the Engineer for his concurrence to use it and he emails me back an excel sheet that he made YEARS ago that was ultimately much cooler, and easier than what I had came up with. Thanks for sharing buddy. Anyway, that's where I'm coming from.

I also have CoinManage which is kind of cool but a relational database would be cooler.

  • I'd love to see this as well, in particular for MS Excel, if someone has developed something good.

What do you think, Mr. Bigglesworth?

wow...I can't imagine having a collection so extensive that I'd require a database to keep track of it all. I have my meager collection in Excel

Excel is or can easily become a database of sorts. The thing I like about the polished database software like FileMaker Pro is the ability to create a small database and link or embed a photo or file and especially in the case of FileMaker Pro, have the ability to convert your data to Excell or Adobe PDF in a couple of seconds.

I took my home inventory database and pdf 'd it and gave it to my insurance agent.

OK...when I think of database I think of SequelServer or MySequel or Oracle...something that links Inventory with pictures to raw datafiles or whatever... I run a microbiology lab and I have to keep track of inventory, inventory access, and various users as well as molecular genetic data from various platforms.
