To crack or not to crack??

Thinking of sending this into PSA, but I've never sent anything in before except for T206's. Anyone have a guess as to what it would come back as? Anyone have the SMR's. The Last PSA 7 went for about $425 on Ebay, and the last PSA 9 went for $1436. No PSA 8's or GAI's that I could find though. Thanks.

  • if you're lucky, it was a PSA 8 before it was cracked and sent to GAI for the usual "bump".

is that paper loss on mick's neck?

    Wow Knop

    That's a really great card!

Have you taken the 10X to it? What do you think?

I have seen the reports go both ways.

And if you send it in like that? A bump would not be in your future IMO.

Crack? It's got to be worth more as an 8.5 than if it gets an 8.

Can you scan the corners - blow them up and post them here?

I know that's very time consuming.

To me it appears to be an 8 at best. Nice card nevertheless.

Not sure about the neck. I'll scan the corners after dinner, so check back in an hour or two if you're interested. Thanks to all for the input.

It IS a great looking card, but I doubt you'd get a 9. If you're planning to sell, I'd say leave it in the 8.5 holder.

If you're looking for a PSA 9, you will have to crack it out. If you're okay with an 8, submit as a crossover with Min. PSA 8.

80-90% chance if you send it in in a GAI holder they won't grade it, on principle.
I think it will get more as a PSA 8 than a GAI 8.5, unless it's in a Mile High auction.

I would crack it and send it in if you are looking for an 8. I'm with anthony that it will sell for more in a psa 8 than a gai 8.5

  • i agree that a psa 8 would be better than a gai 8.5, but i disagree that cracking it would be a good idea. i think the risk of it being graded lower (if, in fact, there's paper loss on mick's neck) is much greater than the hammer price difference of a psa 8 over a gai 8.5.

regardless, it is a very nice card!
  • From my experience with GAI crack and submits (never ever send it in on a crossover UNLESS you specify a minimum grade), an 8.5 gets a PSA 8 80% of the time and a 9 20% of the time. I've never had a GAI 8.5 come back lower than an 8 but I have had a dozen or so bumps to 9s...
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

my experience is very limited, but i've cracked 2 gai 8.5's, and got a psa 7 & 8. both were dead-centered, but both had subtle flaws that gai overlooked / didn't care about. this card seems to fit that profile - dead centered, but with a subtle flaw.

Thanx for taking the time to scan the corners Knop.

I have zero experience and defer to guys like Only.

In viewing them - IMO - the upper left front border will keep from a 9.

But, ya never know, but it would be a hi end 8 in a PSA holder if not bumped.

thanx for sharing and good luck

I think it looks like a 7 as well. It looks a little soft for a 8 and a lot soft for a 9. I have sent in cards like that and seen them come back a 6 as well. I would not crack it! If you want it in the PSA holder, do what the others said and send it in holdered with a minimum grade of 8.

It is a nice card though. Great centering and solid eye appeal!!
  • If you are looking for a psa 9 card to keep in your collection sell it And then buy yourself a psa 9.

Don't bother cracking. I think it's going to come back as Evid Of Trimming regardless. From the scans of the back particularly the right side; there's too much room/space, and there is more border on the top right of the back then there is on the bottom right of the back. Maybe it's just me.
