Who pays the postage to fix this PSA error?

The label does not match the card. If I decide to send it back to PSA for correction, who pays the postage? Granted, it's only a PSA-8 1978 topps common, but what if it were a star card from the 50's or 60's, who covers the unnecessary out of pocket expense? Does PSA cover it, or does the responsibility fall on the unlucky PSA member?

If you send it back with your next order there will not be any extra cost for postage. I have found that is the best way to handle it.

If you need that card for a set I can send you this one for free... lol... it would probably cost more in fees on feebay that I could sell it for.

  • I had the same situation occur. Below is the response I received from PSA. Hope this helps.

    Hello,
I also apologize for the errors on your cards. We will need you to send them in for us to correct them; I am sorry for this inconvenience. Below are some instructions for sending them back in to be fixed. These instructions are very specific to insure that we are able to process your order properly and avoid delays.

    · Please fill out a PSA submission form, mark "Other" as the service level, write in "Mechanical Error" and include a short note on the form describing the error. There is no charge or return shipping fees for the correction.

    · If you are not a Collectors Club member, please provide me your address and I will send you a submission form.

    · Please keep the problem card(s) on a separate submission form if you will be sending other cards as well.

    · Please make sure the submission form and the outside of the shipping box has “Mech. Error" clearly and LARGELY written somewhere on it.

    · You will still need to write in the Declared Value(s).

    · Once the card(s) is corrected, you will be sent a grading voucher to compensate you for the shipping back to PSA. This voucher will arrive separate from your order.

Again, I apologize and thank you for your patience.

    Thanks,

    Carolyn

I wonder how far one could get assembling a Registry set with entirely erroneously labeled cards.

Love that idea, and I'd love to see someone give it a try.

Also, I want to welcome tanzanite to the boards. So... Welcome!!!

I can understand these errors if they would have just switched the lables but that never happens. Take a look at this submission:

    128 04487618 1996 LASERVIEW INSCRIP JIM KELLY PSA/DNA CERTIFIED 9
    129 04487619 1996 LASERVIEW INSCRIP WARREN MOON PSA/DNA CERTIFIED 10
    130 04487620 1997 PINN.INSCRIPTIONS JOHN ELWAY PSA/DNA CERTIFIED 10
    131 04487621 1997 PINN.INSCRIPTIONS BARRY SANDERS PSA/DNA CERTIFIED 10
    132 04487622 1997 PINN.INSCRIPTIONS JOHN ELWAY PSA/DNA CERTIFIED 10

Everything looks fine until I noticed that #130 and #132 were the same card. Hard to belive since #132 is Dan Marino. Had this happen with another recent submission. They confused Brett Favre for Ben Rothlisberger. These cards only have the name of the player on the front of them.

PSA pays the return postage so there is no expense on that end. If you send just that card it will cost you to send it to them. I usually just send it in with another submission so there is no cost at all to me.
  • Ahh! Good to know that PSA's quality control team is hard at work! I remember as a kid always confusing Doug DeCinces and Dock Ellis, I can see how that happened.

I used to get Tim Wallach and Oil Can Boyd mixed up too.
