100% Finally! Yay Me!

Well it took a year longer than I thought, 4 years, 4 and a half months altogether, but today I received the 660th card in my PSA 8 1975 Topps set. It's the 19th set on the All-Time list to reach 100%, and even though it's not very highly ranked, I'm pretty happy and proud to finally be done. Thanks to fellow collectors who helped me complete it, both by supplying cards as well as a couple deep-pocketed guys who paid big money for low pops I happened to have that I was able to pick up cheaper later. Special thanks to Shane (1954) whose 1971 Greatest Moments set with the individual notes on each card inspired my interest in the set registry by reminding me that every card can be remarkable, answered some questions I had about the set and the registry, and soon sold me my first graded card (a 71 TGM Gibson). I don't know if I'll continue upgrading very far, but I have 8.10 as a final goal in mind.

  • Congratulations! Its always nice to get that last card, and 660 cards is quite an accompishment. I really like the design of the 1975 Topps set. How about adding scans for all of the cards. I would love to be able to see high quality scans of all the cards in high grade. Lately have have been going though my cards and scanning them all. Its really fun to pull them all out and look at them for once. Plus, I think it really adds a lot to you registry set when you have scans off all of the cards.

    Wow. Really fantastic, man. Congratulations!

    .
  • Congrats! I love the 1975 set as many others do. It seems to be the clear favorite in the 70s...and well deserved on set design in my opinion.

What do you do now with the set? It seems many collectors sell off a set of graded cards after a long road of putting it together. Is the chase the fun part of collecting to you? Or will the set be with you for a long time?

image .......Very nice set Helionaut , congrats on reaching 100% .................I am surprised that the Fisk card was the last one needed to complete the set , since the pop is so high on them ! Is it a tough card to find nicely centered , or what ? Good luck on the upgrades !!!!!! .........................Robbie

Congratulations. It is always nice to see a board member complete a set and it is even better when a fellow board member was an inspiration.

'75 Topps is a great set. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Thanks for the nice comments. The Fisk was the last card I got just because it worked out that way. I knew early on that the ones to concentrate on were the tough commons, and the HOFers would always be available. I obviously could've gotten that card a long time ago, but in addition to being tactical I'm also a bottom-feeding, shallow-pocketed guy. I had been hoping to get one for about $12, but it was worth the extra $9 I paid for this one, costs be damned to complete it.

I don't know what's next but it will be something with "gravitas". I like the idea of having a 1950s set, and I'm really thinking about a 1959 set in 8, but some of the prices are scary. Maybe by the time I am ready to wrap that one up, the $300 "common" cards will have dropped a lot. I might have to settle for 7s on some of those. Other ideas are the big 3 (1952T in 5-6, T-206 in 4, 1933 Goudey in 5-7), or 1963 or 1964 or 1953 Topps or 1965 or 1970 or 1967 or 1972 or 1962 or 1961 or 1953 Bowman Color or 1955 Topps Pins or 1964 Topps Coins (started on that one once) or 1952 Bowman or 1949 Bowman (started on that one once, too) or the master sets of Bob Gibson, Sandy Koufax, Hank Aaron and Roberto Clemente, or about a hundred others.
