1978 Topps #400 PSA 9 Nolan Ryan auction ... POOF

softparadesoftparade Posts: 9,281 ✭✭✭✭✭
I was watching this auction for 4 days. Bidding was up to almost 300 bucks with more than 16 bids. This morning I check and BAMN .... all bidders are gone and the auction ended. Obviously someone made it worth while for the seller to pull the auction. Nothing pisses me off more on e-bay then this kind of crap. I hope I am wrong image

I was actually talking to someone the other day about how I wanted to see the bidding war this card would create.

Between 805francis (his ebay ID) and Brian (who has the #1 78 Topps set)... As insane as it would have been, I wouldn't not have been surprized if that card had hit 8 or $900.

Well history says the card would have gone in the mid 400's. But it is a nicer example of this tough card that I have seen on e-bay in a long while. I really really hope one of the registry guys did not do the ol snake in the grass skit with this one. THAT would suck.

From what I have seen from 805francis on ebay, he is buying every Nolan Ryan card he can get his hands on, and he obviously has very deep pockets to back his obsession. He has also been spending many times "book" on the cards he is buying. Here is an example I saw the other day... 1993 Finest Nolan Ryan PSA 9 (I am talking about a non-refractor just to clear up any confusion) he won the auction for $167.52. I had 2 copies of that card in PSA 9 a couple years back and ended up selling them both for $30 or $40. Its not a low pop either, there has been 60 of them graded PSA9, and 9 or them graded PSA10. Between him and Brian, who I am sure is dying to finally have a high grade Ryan card for his '78 topps set... who knows

That all fina and dandy Jon .... BUT when a card hits e-bay it is up for PUBLIC auction. If the seller posted here that he had the card and would take offers through PM's or whatever .... that is cool. But when a card gets listed on e-bay it is up for GRABS. Maybe it is just me, but I will not look to fondly on the person who may or may not have blind sided everybody else who were bidding the appropriate way.

Again, I hope I am wrong. I sent the seller a question asking what happened to the auction.

Don't get me wrong, I totally agree with you... I think once a card hits ebay then the seller should have to live with the final bid of the auction, and shouldn't end it early for any offers he might receive. I have turned down many requests over the years from people wanting me to end an auction early.

I was simply stating how I wanted to see the bidding war.

On another note, 4SC has listed another 78 Topps Ryan PSA 9, although its not nearly as centered as the last one. Actually, I'm shocked this one even got a 9.

The Ryan that disappeared was as nice a #400 Ryan that I have seen. This is the first time I have actually been PISSED OFF pretty good at seeing a auction vaporize. I was prepared to bid accordingly on this card as it is the biggest obstacle I have in front of me in completeing my 1978 set in minimum PSA 9.
