Very nice find (may get better)

I went to an Estate Sale today that advertised toys(I collect action figures from the 1980s in addition to cards). I was one of the first there, when I got there I immediatly saw a CASE of GI Joe action figures. It was opened, but none of the pieces were removed when I looked further I saw they were 1983 figures.

There are 2 of these in this case
Destro

Not to mention one each Snake Eyes, Scarlett and Stalker.

I paid just 15 dollars for the case(I feel a little guilty, but he set the price even after I was holding them shaking from excitement). I was talking to the man running the sale and apparently his dad owned a toy store in the early to mid 1980s and still has a storage building full of cases of action figures from that time. I

He told me he needed to sell it quickly, so in the next few days I am going to go see this storage unit and hopefully there will be more of this to find.

I also picked up a couple of nice boxed Transformers at this sale and some loose ones at another sale I went to.

  • Congrats! Always nice to fall into a buy like that!
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

Looking for Al Hrabosky and any OPC Dave Campbells (the ESPN guy)
  • May take the figures to Dallas tommorow and sell them to get the money to buy the rest if they are worthy.

Must have been one of those days for finds. A friend of mine found a lot of 25 nice Golden Age Comic books including an Avengers #1 and Iron Man #1.
  • Awesome find!!! A storage full? Wow.

I remember playing with those. Wanted to buy some unopened but out of my price range. I stuck with just Star Wars "Troopers" unopened vintage-present. 1 of each. Now I buy the new GI Joes for my boys.

    Good Luck

Its amazing what you can find at estate auctions. A friend of mine bought a lot of old lunch boxes for 50 bucks and turned around sold them for over 500.
  • Great find....... I remember collecting these as well as a kid. Forget his name but I remember the "American Indian" guy being very hard to find. Also I think Snake Eyes was tuff to locate.

  • Think the Indians name was Spirit. Does this sound right?

Hey Wizard: I'd be interested in some of your GI Joes if you'd be willing to trade for some cards. I'd trade in your favor value-wise.

    Wow Wizard

Congratulations. I woulda been shaking also!!

As it goes for guilt? Hey, it's an estate sale - they set the prices not you. It's not the same as being a dealer where one would be sworn to a fair trade ethics thing or anything.

    Bravo!
Scans when you get a chance would be nice.
I don't collect them but they are way too cool!

If anyone saw the 40 year old virgin movie? This guy was loaded with stuff like that!

  • any transformers in there, i need them.
  • Well the transformers I bought were for my personal collection. I got a NIB StarScream, Skywarp, Iron Hide and Jazz. I am hoping there are more of these in the storage unit.. A megatron or prime case would be nice.

The loose ones I bought at another sale were all Generation 2 and early Beast Wars, but still very nice peices.

My favorite was the USS FLAGG I in a shed at an estate sale for 5.00. It was tore apart a noone knew what it was. I recogonized it right off reassembled it and sold it for 350.00. Just seeing it assembled was awesome.

    Yes they are..

    Megatron

    Prime

They have come down in price over the past couple of years, with the movie set for release next year look for them to start climbing again.

I'd hold on to any Transformers items untill next year if you can. When the live action movie is close to being
released and Transformers will be more on peoples minds might be better to sell things then.
