What's Your Thoughts On This Toner?

For me, this type of toning on a coin can grow on you. It's a coin that has a unique look and I actually like the coin. It's tough to get the colors too show through though.image

Seriously though I have a few coins with 'strange' & 'funny' toning - the longer I have them the more they grow on me.

  • I personally don't like that toning. There are alot nicer toned 1972 $1s.

Bleh. Not hideous, but far from pretty.

I guess beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder ...

Here's a Grayside toner I picked up today at a local pawn shop - Royal Canadian Military Police Centennial. A lot of people don't like brown toning - but to me it was the only reason for purchase:

Lee - I can tell that is a good looking 72 toner. I have a handfull of slabbed Canada commems. that look real good in hand but can't be photographed worth a damn. I also have three handsfull of these coins that are great to photograph. I have them in airtites, remove the cover, set them in front of a picture window, and shoot them about 10 degrees off of top-dead-center (natural light beats artificial light for displaying the myriad of colors in these coins). For the coin shown below I set the camera off to the right by about 10 degrees. I'm afraid that the slab really screws up the photography - you might start looking for some of the unslabbed - there are some great ones out there. Oh Canada!

    And, another of my favorites.
