  • folks were much more tolerant in the past.....he's right.

I remember being pulled over in high school with a grocery bag of homegrown, the cop just took it, smiled and shook his head and let us go.
And we were actually pissed that it was all gone. Not relieved that we weren't going to jail or anything.

I wonder how much flak Arod would have received if he made these same claims.

    And the man-crush continues........

Back on topic (why am I not surprised he attempted to derail it), I've always thought of Johnny as a pot head image

stown you didn't even care to post to this thread until I did.

How much flak would Arod have gotten for having admitted smoking in his past?

Yeah, you are the reason I posted in this thread. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but the world doesn't revolve around you.

And please, stop attempting to derail this thread.

  • I really don't think ARod would get too much flack. He hasn't been as good this year as he should be so he deserves to get some flack. Plus, he was horrible in the postseason, when it counts the most. He will continue to get lots of flack until he performs when it counts the most. I like Arod, and root for him, but he needs to excel to get the respect of the NY fans.

    Now back to Johnny Damon…

I definatly like him even more now.

Damon gets a pass because he was one of the 'idiots' in Boston.

Arod got hammered for playing in a poker room (something completely legal, unlike marijuana use).

Anyways, its not like he's admitted to using it during his playing days, but back when he was a kid.

So tell me why Damon gets a pass on this, while Arod got slammed for playing cards legally?

  • Damon gets a pass because middle america knows there's nothing wrong with it. Median incomes are the majority in the states, and "anyone" who's done this isn't catergorized quite easily. Young, Old. Rich, middle class, and the poor. Presidents, martyrs, and misfits. It's "legalized" for religious purposes and those such legalities back by the Supreme Court. Come on guys, lets' not consider Marijuana in a steriod typically way. I wouldn't care if a President admitted, and I sure couldn't criticize a man who plays a childs' game and makes MILLIONS! Past aside, that guy has his chit together ya know? I know for some of us(fans of teams through the rough years and the unbelievable); we vicariously live through the team we root for. A player for who you've always been a fan of, coming through when it really counts. These guys out here are a helluvalot like you and me, we're normal guys who for the most part genuinely love the game.

PS-Maybe I'm a lil high right now. Yep, Yeah I am.

I just don't understand why A-Rod gets bashed so much even by his own fans. I'm not even a Yankee fan and I can recall off the top of my head 3 game-winning homers or RBIs that he's come through with in the last 6 weeks alone. My own opinion, FWIW, is that most fans resent him because he's aloof and he does a poor job at wanting to be liked. I think most New Yorkers look at those traits as signs of weakness in terms of his personality because it can't be because of his talent. A-Rod is probably the most consistent all-around player over the last 10 years.

  • aw man, I totally forgot about that thread I started where I bashed Arod for playing poker...

wait, that never happened... And liking damon "a little more" equates to "giving him a pass because he was one of those Boston idiots?"
    Pretty big leap there...

I dont recall Arod taking a world of crap. Maybe it was spoken about a little, but so what ? I never cared and dont know anyone else who cared. It seems like its just another attempt by the Ax to spin.

Back to the topic......Is there anyone who didnt think Johnny smoked some weed ? Is there anyone in America who hasnt at some point ? He wont catch flak for it, and neither would Arod. I think I would have more respect for Arod if he had also. There are far worse legal substances to the health and welfare of Americans ( tobacco, alcohol ) The day they find a way to make as much $$ of weed as they do off tobacco and alcohol that will be just as legal.

The last two Presidents smoked pot, even though one "didn't inhale" (yeah, right). I mean seriously, how much fun would it be to pass around a bong with Johnny D?? Now that is something I would pay some serious cash for on Ebay image

Or perhaps a desperate attempt to show that the NY media and 'fans' of the yankees haven't crucified the guy at every opportunity.

Which is the closest you will admit to constantly derailing. If you didn't constantly derail threads, call people names, and make empty threats, there would be no need to "police" the forum.

I've contributed more to this thread than you have and the world does not revolve around you, axtell, even though you wished it did. Now, please, stop discussing your obvious man-crush for someone who left your recently adopted non-home team for greener pastures.

Back on topic, it's funny that this hasn't been a shock to anyone. It would have been more shocking had he admitted to never smoking pot image

Perhaps you are just a fool who cant accept the truth. I dont need an excuse to bash Arod, or an alibi not to.

    stown-

you aren't the forum police, and you have done as much derailing as anyone here.

As far as Damon, who cares? His best days are obviously behind him and he blew the chance to be a hero in Boston until his career was over, instead of going for a bit more money to play for NY.

  • I do not smoke weed myself, and can careless who smokes it or not, personally it should be legal. I play poker, and I play it often, everytime I play, it is "illegal," and I play perhaps once a month on average. Everyone talks about how the players need to be role models to young kids in society, because parental responsibility has moved away from the parents themselves, onto sport stars, television, and movie stars.

If A-Rod ever admitted to smoking the herb, it would be front page news, and people would call for his head, but it is "OK" for Damon to admit to it, because he was a long-haired hippy. Just goes to show the double standards that are all around, it is "OK" for one, but not for another. Child molestation is illegal, but it is "OK" for Michael Jackson. Statutory rape is illegal, but it is "OK" for female teachers who have some good looks. Murder is illegal, but it is "OK" for an ex-NFL star. Hitler was wrong in what he did, yet Saddam Hussein did just as much in other ways, but he was a "peaceful" pawn in an unjust war. A little off topic, but whether it is weed or poker, one player to another, just shows the double standards that are allowable in society and in the baseball world itself. If A-Rod ever admitted to it, imagine the outcry of hate towards him!!!!
  • jad22jad22 Posts: 535 ✭✭
It is illegal to smoke it. The mayor of Bridgeport CT get caught snorting cocaine on tape but who cares, he doesn't have to quit his job even though it is a felony. Give me a break, Damon unfortunately is role model and kids are listening to him. He should keep his personal life and opinions to himself.
  • AxtellAxtell Posts: 10,037 ✭✭
Last time I checked it was illegal to smoke pot, and has been for some time...therefore Damon broke the law by smoking it.

Arod, however, breaks no laws in playing poker and yet he's crushed in the media and by so-called fans.
