I can't figure this trade out. I thought the Reds were trying to win this season. Check it out:

Giving up two 26 year olds in Lopez (a former all star) and Kearns (a fan favorite and power hitter) is a lot for guys I've never heard of. And I consider myself more than just a casual sports fan.

You look at the Reds revamped bullpen - it still sucks and is certainly not competitive enough even if they managed to get into the playoffs. Guardado is not even a shadow of his former self when he actually could pitch well, Coffey is the best guy there but the set-up man isn't going to win enough games for you... everyone else is highly suspect - Weathers, Mercker, Hammond - all capable of destroying a game in just a few batters.
Soriano will be traded for certain - it's not a matter of if, it's just a question of when. He's not necessary this season, he's too valuable to not trade, and since they are out of the race there's no chance they'll keep him. If they want him back that badly, they can make a bid for him in free agency, but they know he's not coming back.
