61 Fleer Wilt Chamberlain

I've owned some commons from this set before, but didn't pay a whole lot of attention. Are they glossy? I picked up a Wilt today, it's a nice card but a bit glossy. Is that normal?

here is the card in question...

Also, the ink on his chest/left shoulder is baffling me. If it is even ink (i'm referring to the dark colored, stuff that looks like waves kind of). the card also appears to be slightly shorter (half a MM maybe) than my standard issue sportscards, is this set known for that? You can see in the holder it doesn't look quite tall enough.... It has no creases, but does have that scuff to the right of Wilt's face. Is this a PSA 5? PSA 6? And was it a decent deal for $300? So many questions, I know! I've always wanted this card, and just couldn't pass it up, when I finally saw one in person!
    thanks

  • It is fine and looks like a psa 5 to me. That centering is very bad. 61 Fleers have a bit of a shine to them, but it looks fine. 300 bucks is a fair deal.

  • It is real and they come in all sizes as for a grade sorry i hate to give an opinion on grade just from a scan.

I agree on the size, centering issues and variations in gloss.

This first card has all kinds of gloss - even glows in the dark!

Whereas the second card, that I picked up raw back in '92, has a matt or satin-like gloss to it.

As it goes for value of Wilt - it's a nice card BTW - sorry I don't know.

First, copy the URL from the properties of the pic you want to post.

Then when you compose a message, go to the 4th icon from the left that looks like a picture frame.

PRESS and PASTE the URL and press OK.

Check the "PREVIEW" first to see if it worked before pressing the "Reply to thread" button.

Not sure how you got part of the IMG outside of the message but my guess is - also, that you didn't copy all of the URL address - when copying the address - make sure you scroll all the way down - some addresses are very long.

The blurb on the back of Wilt's card reminds me of Zander Hollander's legendary Complete Handbook of Pro Basketball series of annual paperbacks, although to really qualify, it would have to have some snarky comment about him in there somewhere.
  • hey stone, how much for that baylor psa 9. i would do anything to own that card.

Interestly, I am sending it in with my 6 sub this year.

Not even sure what it's worth?

My guess? It will come back 8OC?

Not sure on availability - I am doing the HOF portion of the 61F set.

  • I am five key cards left, I have them in lower grade though. Number 12 on current finest, "fast break", love the simplicity of this set.

  • One of the all time classics!

and a tough one, anytime you can get a card with the total number of 8's, 9's and 10's less than 25% of the overall pop makes it tough, at least that is how I measure the 61 set.
