paypal poll for buyers and sellers........

Good morning:
With some of the documented paypal problems, I'm curious as to how many members of this board accept paypal as payment and how many buyers prefer to pay using paypal vs. other payment methods?

1)As a buyer, I generally only bid on items that I can pay for with via paypal (unless I really want an item).

2)As a seller, I prefer to get paid via paypal. In most cases, I only accept paypal. However, if I'm selling an expensive item or if I'm selling a raw card that I offer my opinion regarding condition, I won't accept paypal.

How about you guys?

Rich

If you do not take paypal or a personal check, I am not bidding on your auction.

before i became an eBay seller, i was warned about PayPal and the horror stories of chargebacks and frozen accounts....to this day i have yet to experience a problem with them, knock on wood....although PayPal builds their corporate fortune from our hard-earned dollars, i find the concepts and services they provide are things i can't live without....i prefer to accept and pay that way

I accept and prefer paypal. It is fast and easy. I hate cashing checks and heading to the bank.

As a buyer I like the ease of it and the security of refunds.

As a buyer, I'm more inclined to bid on an item if PayPal is accepted, but I've sent plenty of checks to the likes of DSL. And it has to be something I really, really want to get me to send a money order.

As a seller, I accept PayPal, but really prefer checks or money orders so I can save on fees. And though I've never run into any problems with PayPal, I've certainly grown nervous about it after hearing all the horror stories. Until something better comes along or I really get reamed, I'll continue taking it.

  • Paypal sux - pure and simple, but it's a necessary evil to do business in the ebay universe.

For those of you who have never experienced a problem.....great. But your time is coming!

As a buyer, I could care less if they seller takes paypal or not....depending on feedback.

As a seller, I accept it due to the "...if you don't accept it, I ain't bidding...." mentality, displayed above.

I accept paypal and personal checks, etc.....I actually have a guy that buys regularly from me that mails me personal checks. I mail his card(s) out the day after the auction ends. I do this frequently with regular buyers. The My Ebay stuff helps me keep track of all of this rather easily.

However, I personally will never buy another item again on ebay from an unknown seller, unless he/she takes paypal and I can use my credit card.

I recently ran into this problem....and am by no means far from letting it drop.
  • I have been fortunate I guess. I have used paypal for 4 years without a problem. I accept it on my auctions I also like buying from sellers who use paypal. Their buyer protection has kept me from losing money to bad sellers a couple of times.
  • I avoid Paypal like the plague. It is too easy for scamming buyers to set up fake accounts and screw you out of your money. Paypal rules allow this to freely happen and punish sellers who follow all their rules.

As far as the belief that Paypal is necessary to sell on Ebay. That is an outright lie. I know several Power Sellers who have never nor will ever use Paypal. I will never use their service again. Items where Paypal is accepted only sell for an average of 3 to 5% higher than those without it. This is from Ebay's own research. By the time you pay Paypal's fees are you really making anymore on the item??

I went most of 2005 without Paypal and my sales were almost the same as when I took Paypal. When I went back to taking them I saw no increase and was still getting 50% of my payments via Money Order.

Paypal is on its way out as a payment service as more and mores sellers are dumping them, why do you think Ebay banned Google's Payment service. They know that would kill Paypal.

Louisana is getting very close to banning Paypal from conducting business in their state at all. When that finally goes through I bet several other states may follow suit.

Fact is if you use Paypal you will eventually get screwed by them.

Out of about 3000 transactions on Ebay the only problems I ever had were from accepting Paypal. Never had a bounced check, never had a bad money order.

As far as depositing them, I usually hold small payments all week while mailign the items when I get the payment. USPS Money Orders I just cash at the Post Office. Big payments I usually immediatly deposit them.
  • As a buyer, I get image by paypal. My good ole Paypal buddies just informed me that $230+ in payments made to a seller may or may not be covered under the buyer protection plan as the seller was NARUed.

As a seller, I get image by paypal even harder. I've voiced my complaints about them on other threads so I won't open up any more of my sore wounds.

Least these image could do is offer me a reach around when they screw me.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

As a buyer, I prefer PayPal. Fast and easy; pretty good "buyer protection."

As a seller, PayPal is the ONLY payment method I currently accept. But,
I am getting VERY nervous about it. I clean the PayPal account into a checking
account every few days, and clean that checking account into a third-one
    that is unknown to PayPal.

I would not accept PayPal in an amount that I could not "afford" to lose.

PayPal and eBay could both be made "safe" for buyers/sellers, but Meg's gang
currently has no incentive to make it happen.

good point, as a seller i make sure i put my money somewhere PayPal can't get it in case of a disaster
  • Good afternoon:
At one time I beleived that if a seller would cross every "T" and dot every "I", he would be fine with regard to accepting paypal. As of today, I only have had one chargeback filed against me which I won (I have been using paypal for roughly 5 years now). With this said, I tend to agree with Wizard that sooner or later you/I will get burned. Even though I still accept paypal as a seller, I won't under the certain circumstances which I mentioned in my initital post.
