Dang, I'm glad he's going to the NL, now the Red Sox don't have to face him.

  • A good move for the 'Stros. He's a dangerous bat and can platoon at many positions.

When the Astros said they were making a major announcement this morning, the sports radio station was all abuzz of what was going on. Huff is a nice addition but not a major one; however, he can play several positions, which helps.

    1) Ensberg is slumping and hurt (allegedly), so Huff can move in and play 3rd.
    2) He can play 1st and move Berkman to RF
    3) Have Huff play RF since Lane got sent back down to the AAA

This was Tim's first mid-season trade since taking over the GM spot. Eh, could have been a lot worse, I suppose image

I was really hoping he was traded to NYY or DET or any other AL team - I just lost a valuable player in my AL-only fantasy league.

Houston is going to need a lot more help than him if they're going to have a chance - like a new bullpen that can actually pitch, and about 2 or 3 more guys who can actually hit consistently with runners on base.
  • I really think this is a great move by the Astros. This guy has eaten Blue Jays pitching alive in recent years. The Jays wanted him last year and couldn't pry him from the Rays. Houston traded little for him and the Rays are going to pay around $1.6 million on his remaining salary. This is a great move.

I would rather see them trade Kazmir -- to Japan!!
  • Am I the only one still on the Jason Lane bandwagon?

I see this trade as a push; it won't help them win the pennant, but then again, I won't hurt their chances either.

Not that its going to help this anemic offense, that, and the fact they have several more talented teams in front of them in the division race and wild card.

I wonder when Clemens asks to be traded to a contender?
  • ^^
He's not going to. He has a great schedule with the Stros and his kid is in their minor league system. Needless to say, your grasping for straws(although I'd love to see him in Yankees stadium again!).

I can tell axtell is really bitter. You get owned every which way so you come here and attempt to start a flame war with me. I can see right through your negativity and quite honestly, it makes me laugh. Are you turning red yet, ax? Is steam coming out of your ears? Honestly, how many times have you banged your fists in frustration onto your keyboard with a hateful rage, huh?

Go spew on the multiple threads you have created about the Ms and their lack of advancing in the playoffs.

Just in case you forgot, the 'Stros went to the World Series last year and a Game 7 of the NLCS the year before. Both years, they had terrible 1st halfs, struggled offensively, and we turned out just fine.

Thanks for visiting and adding absolutely nothing to the conversation, again and as always.

Second place is the first loser.

And it's comical to see just how predictably simple minds respond to the same bait over and over and over again.

How's it feel to be so easily baited?

Clemens must be laughing all the way to the bank. He's making a ton of cash and the Astros are no better with him than they were without him. If I were him, I would have put a provision in the contract that pays me $1million every time the Stros get shut out when he pitches. He'd make as much in those bonuses as he does in salary!

Yes, to bad you don't always believe that. lol

Funny how you cut this part out of my post, because it certainlly deserves worth repeating:

In other developments yesterday, the 'Stros fired hitting coach Gary Gaetti and replaced him with Sean Berry. At least they are doing something image

Too bad about Gaetti. Hate to see it for the most prolific home run hitter in Royals history. I can still remember the year (1995) he tied the club record for homers with ... 36

Man if it wasn't for the strike he could have jacked 38, or even 39 that year.

  • I heard somewhere that Huff was one of the best in Interleague play against NL pitching...something like a .450 average. Wonder if he can keep it up.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

Looking for Al Hrabosky and any OPC Dave Campbells (the ESPN guy)
  • ^^
He's been hitting around .370 since the end of may. I always though he'd be a solid player, not spectacular but a guy that would be a great platoon guy and still have a live bat.

Helped the Rays come back to beat the Yanks last Sunday also.

Nice pick up for the Astros.
