Please help me this 1986 Topps Baseball Rack Bust!

Hello All,

I just purchased a 1986 Topps Baseball rack box and my question is while sitting there opening the packs, what is the best way to prep the cards to be sent to PSA for grading? Is it best to put them in a penny sleeve first and then in a Card Saver 1 or is it best just to go straight to the Card Saver? Is there a better way altogether? I don't want to damage them and hope I can maybe get 3-5 PSA 10's from this box so if someone could help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated. Alot of people may think these cards are a waste of time to sent in for grading, but I think this is the sleeper set of 1980's. No great RC's, but it has a ton of HOF's and there are hardly any 10's because of the black borders. Soon the kids who collected these cards will be in their mid 30's wanting to relive their childhood and will be looking for this set.

Thanks, Markimage

  • Hi Mark

Tough set for 10's you picked there!

JMO, but I have always put my cards in a penny-sleeve before the Card-Saver. The reason being, I sometimes fat-finger the card-saver, and the edges kinda "scrape" the sides of the card.....ironically, my wife seems to be much more dexterous than me on insertionimageimage

Anyway, the bottom border never seems chip without the penny-sleeve in the card saver. It's just the sides for me.

Make sure you have the Card Saver I's, not the smaller II's.

    Good Luck!

  • Staright to the sleeve and then into the card saver is how I always do it.

Make sure if you penny sleeve them that you nip the corner of the sleeve off so the card doesnt ding as you are putting it in.

Do what Bri said. Many times as a youngin I didn't and ended up with a screwed up corner b/c of it.

As a kid who collected this set and who is 33 . . . I will NEVER EVER want to look at a 1986 set again.
