I like Topps Collectors team the best. Bri's got Barber and Harrison as studs, Plummer and Trent Green are too unpredictable. Zef if McGahee and Steven Jackson have the year that they were supposed to have LAST year then you got some good backs. McNabb and Culpepper got to show they can dominate again. Topps squad looks like the best to me. Good luck fella's
  • I'll toss in my slackers for comparison. Was hoping to land Lamont Jordan with pick 9 but he was snatched up 1 spot earlier. Decided on Manning as TD passes are worth 6, just like Rush/Rec Scores and I see him tossing 40 again this year. Ronnie Brown should have a nice upswing with no ganji smoking Ricky Williams to split carries with. If either C. Brown or T. Jones can score the majority of the carries for their team, I could be solid.

    1. (9) P. Manning QB
    2. (16) R. Brown RB
    3. (33) R. Wayne WR
    4. (40) J. Shockey TE
    5. (57) T. Jones RB
    6. (64) C. Brown RB
    7. (81) N. Rackers K
    8. (88) K. Robinson WR
    9. (105) N. Burleson WR
    10. (112) M. Moore RB
    11. (129) J. Porter WR
    12. (136) Jacksonville DEF
    13. (153) M. Barber RB
    14. (160) B. Leftwich QB
    15. (177) D. Carr QB
    16. (184) Dallas DEF
    17. (201) J. Wiggins TE

That draft was brutal for me. I didn't want the fourth pick AT ALL!! Reason being, of course, is that after Alexander, Tomlinson, and Johnson, it's up in the air. After those three there is a definate plateau and a dropoff in expected performance. The fourth pick is the one where you are forced to choose the next best out of a pool of 10 possible picks, then have to wait the longest for the next pick. It sucks!

I took Edgerrin because I think he's out to prove he's the real deal anywhere besides indianapolis, because his offensive line is huge, and because defenses have to respect Fitzgerald and Boldin so loading up the line isn't going to happen. If he finishes with 1400+ yards and 10+ TD's, I'll do okay, if not, I'll look like a chump.

I did okay at receiver with Owens and Chambers, they should be as productive as anyone. Knowing I would be weak at RB (the most important position), I took a defense, kicker, and tight end earlier than I normally would have. But since I knew I'd be behind in running back points, I got the Pittsburgh defense, Adam Viniteiri at kicker, and Tony Gonzalez at tight end. I'm hoping by being what should be top three in each of those positions I can offset being behind at running back.

Time will tell. If I would have been third instead of fourth, I would've had Larry Johnson and the rest of my team probably would've been the same. Then my team would've looked great instead of okay. If not a top three pick, give me 12th and 13th. Then with the pool of Edgerrin James, Tiki Barber, Clinton Portis, Rudi Johnson, LaMont Jordan, Ronnie Brown (who I really wanted but didn't feel like I could take fourth), Steven Jackson, Cadillac Williams, Julius Jones, Willis McGahee, Kevin Jones, etc. I could have gotten two of them. Once the 21rst pick (my second) rolled around, they were all gone. So instead of taking the 18th best running back, I went with a guy who should be a top three receiver and followed it up with a guy who should be a top 10 receiver. It was the only way I thought I could go.

    Good luck all.

    shawn

    chris,

good luck in the league. two things I don't like about your team (like you care)

In a heads up format, I hate having a QB/RB or RB/WR from the same team, like you have with Palmer and Rudi. They both may end up with great years, but how many weeks will they both be great? It's more than likely going to be one or the other, and that makes winning heads up tough.

Also, I thought your 13th pick retired? Am I mistaken?

If not, you should've picked Rickey Williams and Jerome Bettis too.

  • Your right Big Red Jimmy Smith did retire.

  • Shawn,

I did not know Smith retired, I dropped him after the draft!

I don't completely disagree about the QB/RB team combo, but its not QB/WR. I took Rudi because I was the 11th pick and P. Manning was not available and Rudi was the best available RB. Some like to take RB's with their first 2 or 3 picks, I like 1 RB, 1 QB, or 1 WR with my first 3 picks, RB always first either QB or WR 2nd depending on how everyone else is drafting.

Why did you pick a Def, TE and Kicker before QB?

Good Luck to you as well!

    Chris
  • Chris-I think Aaron Brooks will put up big numbers in Oakland. Now I'm not saying Oakland will win many, but he's going to put up some good numbers.

Also - I sent you a trade offer!
  • BigRedMachineBigRedMachine Posts: 2,563 ✭✭✭
    Chris,

Like I said earlier, I took a defense, kicker, and tight end earlier than I normally would have.

But I felt I was going to be a little weak at running back, since the big three were gone and I had to pick fourth. I didn't get another chance until pick 21, of course, and Terrell Owens was there and seemed like a better pick than the 14th best running back. So I took Pittsburgh(top 3 defense), Viniteiri (top 3 kicker), and Gonzalez (top 3 tight end) so I could hopefully pick up some points I'll most likely lose at RB.

I never pick a quarterback high, as after Manning there isn't a drop off. There will be a dozen qb's throw between 18 and 26 touchdowns, so why take one early?? You won't gain much on your opponent. (While the difference between Gonzalez/Gates/Shockey might be huge over the 10th tight end) About the time the fifth round came and I began to get nervous about getting any qb, I noticed that 10 of you guys had already drafted yours and zef had drafted two. I didn't see anyone else drafting a qb in the next three rounds, and Brees, Bledsoe, Green, and Brooks were all still available. So I waited and hoped and it worked out. I didn't really want Bledsoe (as I have Owens) nor Green (since I have Gonzalez). The other two.....well it ended up I got both anyway.

Like I said, it's all about plateau's and value over the next available. Not just points scored. To simplify it, if it was all about points, why not take kicker in the first round?? If you look at the top ten scorers in the NFL every year, 8 or 9 are kickers. So why don't we take kickers? Because even though they score a 100+ points, the difference between first and tenth is minimal. The same can be said about quarterbacks. (although Manning is an exception and there is usually one kicker who does well but who can tell who that will be year to year?)

just my opinion, like I said, if I had one of the top three rb's, I'd feel A LOT better.

    shawn

to simplify this "authentic frontier jibberish", I waited on QB because all you guys had already drafted quarterback by round five, and zef had two. I was hoping you would get busy filling other spots before drafting a backup qb and I could wait.....getting a top defense, te, and kicker. Not my plan going in, but it's the way it worked out.

    edited for spelling
  • EDIT: 9th pick

I know we have six weeks until the season or more, and I have no problem giving out a $15-$25 card to the winner, but we need to make sure most of us are on board.

Am I the only one who thinks Edge will be a flop this season? Arizona had a non existing running game last year, that O-line just cannot run block.
  • Perk-Edge is one of the best backs in the league. Although that line is suspect, the line is still huge. He's the best combo(blocking, recieving, rushing) RB in the league, and with Boldin/Fitz/Lewis commanding attention there is no way that defenses can stack the box against him. I see him having another 1400+yd rushing season. Remember, he's still quite young given his experience and he is well past the knee injuries and he's back to being Edge again. Plus, JJ Arrington was overrated as a second round pick.

Topps I agree Edge is one of the best no doubt. I just dont think that line will help him much, I no Shipp is awful and Arrington is not much better but that rushing game was so bad I dont think it all falls on the backs. Time will tell.

Im starting to like my 12th and 13th picks in my league this year, the way I see it the backs are most important so I can grab 2 servicable guys at those picks.

    #1 Johnson
    #2 LT
    #3 alexander
    #4 Barber
#5 Portis --- that leaves me with a pool that consists of Edge, Jordan, Rudi, Caddy, Steven Jackson, Westbrook, and possibly Willie Parker, Droughns, Ronnie Brown. A look at McGahee, and McCallister as well. Somebody is bound to grab Manning or a top wideout in the first round too so that makes it even deeper at my picks for a running back.
  • I got Portis in the draft. It's a solid pickup; and I have Warrick Dunn and Brian Westbrook behind him. Then I think my last tailback is that bulldog Greg Jones.

    Just an update....

Tennessee & myself are the only 2 undefeated teams so far !

That will end this week, we play each other

I dont know how my team pulled it off the first two weeks..I have the Giants defense which hasnt been too good, Plummer at QB who has been horrible, and my 2 backups are Trent Green and Brunell.....

So far Marvin Harrison has been great for me. Same goes for L.J. Smith, Tiki, and Matt Stover.

No offense (pun intended), but this draft caught my eye as being "bad":

    1. (9) P. Manning QB (great)
    2. (16) R. Brown RB (disappointing team)
    3. (33) R. Wayne WR (very good)
    4. (40) J. Shockey TE (good)

Glad I put Brunell in at starter today. 24-27 for 261 yds. and a TD. He also broke the NFL record by completing his first 22 passes.

Big Red Machine is making a move this week, even with my pathetic team.

A five-way tie for fourth had me starting the day in 8th place (because of lowest point total).

But unless you guys get some major points tonight, the four teams I am tied with are all losing. It'll boost me up to fourth alone and back in playoff contention (I'd be out if it started today)image

    Tennessee's team is on fire!!

Unfortunately, my team is bad. So please excuse what is bound to be a one week euphoria for my team.

    Wanna talk bad ?

After winning the first 2 games I have lost 5 straight, not even been close in one. My team has players hurt all over, and nearly every week I am forgetting to change the lineup to account for injuries and bye's.

    Anyone regret taking EDGE?
  • We have 4 weeks to get a playoff spot locked up, I still have hope. Looks like TennesseeB and maybe Zef are the only locks at this point!

    Good Luck!

Well Bri, your fantasy team looks the best this week.

    Unfortunately, it'll be your last.
