Poor Zidane

I still like him. That guy he gave the head butt to was a jerk. Same guy who took the cheapshot on McBride, same guy who is known for cheapshots. Zidane, tormented, lost his temper. Doesn't that happen to everyone at times.

  • It has happened with Zindane before as well, the leg stomp incident, the other headbutting incident. Plain and simple he screwed up in the biggest spot of his career. That's what he'll be most remembered for.

Who cares what the other guy did. Realize the moment and weight of the situation you are in and turn the other cheek. He most certainly screwed up, no excuses, and will have to live with this legacy the rest of his days now.

You mean the same Italian that got suspended for elbowing McBride is the guy Zidane headbutted? His 4-5 game suspension was over and he could play in the finals? He should have been suspended the entire World Cup because FIFA wanted to be strict this year. McBride was bleeding and needed stitches--it was no shove or tackle. It was serious.

I feel very bad for Zidane. I empathize.... He should not have done what he did, but its not like he was not provoked. While the results of the game should not be changed, but I think the Italian guy should also get suspended too. I read reports that he called Zidane a "dirty terrorist"---referencing his muslim background. That kind of racist remark has no place in international sports and this is a very sensitive issue in Germany. Germans get put in jail for denying the holocaust....so this ranks right up there.... I can't see how a person inciting another with racist remarks is going to get off free and clear, especially in Germany....

The head butt recipient is actually not the same guy that fouled McBride.

  • Would have been better if he injured himself like Gus Frerotte did. I believe it was he who head butted the wall and hurt his neck a few years back!!!!
  • I talked to my girlfriend, who is visiting her mother in Italy, and from what I hear from her as to why Zidane head butted is funny.

What is said is that the Italian player pulled on his shirt-
Zidane said, "if you want my shirt so badly, you can pull it off after we win the game"-
The Italian player said, "I would rather pull your wife's shirt off!"

Never thought someone from France would act out in violence, since they are such a peaceful nation!!!

If that is what was said, why didn't the Italian player admit to this to other media? Some say he uttered a racist epithet.

That kind of trash talk involving wives and mothers gets said so many times on the field.... If Zidane just played it cool and won the game, then he could have gone back to the Italian player and offered his shirt and say some kind of smart remark....that would have been poetic justice.....perhaps.

This is why the US is the greatest country on earth. That's ridiculous for a civilized country like Germany to stomp on civil rights like this. I guess we take our freedoms for granted sometimes.

As for the head butt, people around the world are really freaking out about it. American sports have fights constantly. Scuffles always break out in football, players charge the mound in baseball, flagrant fouls and pushing and shoving in basketball, and we won't even bring up Hockey. People are talking about his "legacy" being tarnished. Puuulleeeeeze. He got pissed off and vented out. Happens all the time here.

I always thought the reason they didn't act out was because they are cowards.

If Zidane could do anything over from that game, he'd probably choose directing his header that the Italian goalie spectacularly saved in the second OT towards a corner.

A few insults about his mother?

If Zidane should be grateful about one thing, it's that he playerd soccer instead of hockey. Can you imagine the effect Chris Chelios would have had on him?

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
