Curtis Martin RC

What's considered Curtis Martin's "best" RC? 1995 Finest, 1995 Select Certified, or 1995 SP?

    SP
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
  • 95 SP.

I just busted a wax box tonight and got 2 of them. No chipping, but both of them had white corners. I also busted a 96 SP box and if you want to see chipping on the rookie cards, that is the set to buy in wax. I was thoroughly disgusted with the condition of the cards.

ssgunn-I managed to pick up a box of 96 sp about a year ago, not a single card worth sending in. My box came from a guys closet too, sealed and probably not touched since 96. At least it was cheap...it was a fun rip. Made me appreciate the 9's a lot more.

Never busted 95 SP but with the black borders all the way around, they are tough. Not nearly as nice looking as the 96's either, but still CMarts best rc.

  • SP is the key C. Martin RC. I'm building the set for the Registry and 95SP and 96SP Rookies are some of the hardest to grade. Chipping everywhere and any white on the corners will leave you looking at an 8.

I was just reminded again why the SP's are sooo tuff to pull in high grade. I'd ripped some assorted SP wax a couple of months ago, while I was watching TV at night. I really thought I had a decent pile of them to submit. Of course, when I pulled them back out to loop them (under a better light) two weeks ago ... I saw all of the usual corner problems that hold them back from getting 9's and 10's.

They're still a fun rip .... but I sure am glad I'm not trying to build those sets in high grade yet!
