Nice one from the Joshman!

Got this one in the mail today. Had been eyeing it for a while, and with the 15% off sale I just had to do it.

I suspected that it might be more lustrous and colorful than the picture implied... I was right.

It also appears to be slightly undergraded, which is highly unusual for PCI. I would put it at AU55-58 rather than AU50.

    Rick,

    Nice Pickup !

I've had my eye on it for a while.

Should look real nice in your collection

    Thanks!

I traded off my late 19th century 10 gulden as partial trade for this piece.

It was a difficult piece to part with, but I can probably replace it far easier than coming across another one of these in this condition. I kicked myself for missing out on the last two he had a month or so back.

It is interesting that a 10 stuiver is about the same diameter and weight of a 2 reales. I'm going to have to look into that correlation a little more.

I s'pose I should acquire a tribute piece such as this one since my immigrant ancestor to the Colonies was carrying about 300 guilders (gulden ? ) when he arrived in 1750. He lived in the modern day Alsace region, and departed Europe from Rotterdam.

How much was that in gold coins?

Cilicia (or Syria?) Posideia 4th Century BC AR Obol 11mm. 0.78g. Helmeted head of Athena facing; cap or helmet at right. Head of Nymph facing. POCIDHWN. SNG Levante -; SNG France 2 -. Good VF

It arrived today. I have the article in The Celator that first attributed it, but it fits in nicely with three Cilicia fractionals from uncertain cities I already own. Harlan J Berk has one listed in similar condition for over twice as much!
