Grades popped , Not thrilled

They were tough on my latest submisson, Most of these were gone over with a loupe several times, pulled straight from packs. got a few 10's, but should have gotten a lot more. I still have a sub from the first week of June that hasnt popped yet and these popped in a week?

Can you post a pict. of the 84 Donruss Mattingly? You seem to send in quite a few cards and I was wondering how OC is that card, was it borderline??
  • tennesseebankertennesseebanker Posts: 5,433 ✭✭✭
I havent got them back yet stingray, But from what I remember that was one of the cards that probably got the grade it deserved, It was o/c but I thought it would get an 8 instead. When i get it back I will post a scan.

Tennessee.... Overall, not too bad. I wasn't very happy with my last submission either.
I too had the same *0640* grader.. Hhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....................

Like you, the last set of cards I had pop was not the oldest I have in! I too am waiting on
a bunch that posted on 6/2 ... oddly enough, they're ALL of one player too (can you guess
who that is?) I figured since they were all of one player, they'd get done quicker... oh well.

BTW... do you Ebay some of what you get back? If so, what's your userID?

ALWAYS Looking for Chris Sabo cards!

Onefasttalon, My E-bay user id is -this_user_id_has_not_been_taken_yet
i will be putting all of these up on E-bay, either in my store or up for auction. The 10's will probably be the ones up for auction, The rest probably in the store. My store is looking kind of empty lately, so I need quite a few things to replenish the inventory. If there is anything you are interested in let me know.

BTW, That is when my first sub was entered also, Whats up with that? mine were just 86 Topps.

I'll keep an eye on your auctions and store. I've noticed you submit quite a bit is all... just wondering. For the most part, what I
collect is all over the place and not just Sabo. Hopefully, our 6/2's will post shortly! Let's hope for something other than the 0640*
    grader this time!

ALWAYS Looking for Chris Sabo cards!

I hear YA ! I'm not really disappointed with the lack of 10's, It is all the 8's that kill me. There is no way these things deserved 8's. Especially the 86 Donruss.

Anyone know how hot the 83's are right now?? Was wondering what 10's bring ?

  • i find that no matter how careful you are, how many times you magnify your cards under good lighting, they STILL always find a way to d1ck you with some 8's image

'All player' subs always take longer than 'all year' subs. I don't know why, but they do.

Put away the loupe and start looking at the card under a halogen lamp ACROSS the card from corner, to corner. You'll do a lot better with your submissions.

That's not bad advice - but I still use a loupe also, especially on issues where it's tough to see border wear with the naked eye.

Those don't look all that bad to me?

10s are a tricky thing - now I would be more concerned with an 8 - did you think they were all 9s?

    Still, not bad at all.

If your louping each corner and still not getting solid 9's and 10's, don't feel alone!!

anyways, if the corners are louped and registration/focus/color is fine, my guess is your not picking up imperfections across the surface or gloss isssues. The Halogen and corner to corner look will help you with these. The corner to corner look will also help you with corners that the loupe won't, like mirco flicks or impressions

Frankly, I will have to get them back and look at them to se which ones I had doubts about, Now that I think about it, the 86 Donruss werent the ones I thought they were, I have opened so much 86 Donruss product lately I dont know which way is up. I remember now sending those 86 Donruss in to see how tough they were on the 86 Donruss. I did think they were better than 8's though.

    This one was entered 7/3

I have a batch of 86 Topps that was entered 6/2, Still hasnt popped.???

  • I have a batch submitted 6/7 and 6/24 and nothing yet either. Mine are mostly one player or groups of players so it's good to know that those usually take longer. I was wondering about mine with all these posts about quick turn around.

Mine are: 6/7, 6/9, 6/20 and 6/23. The last three are all 100 card subs, and I don't think any of them have more than 4 cards from the same year/issue, which means they could take a very, very long time to get back. If you submit a 100 ct. lot of one particular year you'll usually get 'em back within two weeks. But if your subs look like either mine or yours there's no need to start getting antsy until week 6 or so (in my experience).
  • Not a terrible submission. A few gems in there.

Not to boast, but I rarely earned 8's on cards directly from rack busts in the past. Now, my results are littered with 8's.

I am mystified. Perhaps I am not as careful as before.

8's are a bear to get rid of . . . even stars.
