eBay buyers must really think we're idiots....

In reference to a coin listed for $600.00:

<< <i>Hello, I am very interested in your coin, but can only go as high as 300$. I mean no desrespect, but to be honest - that is all I have right now. If not, I understand, but thought I would offer. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks so much. >>

Certainly one of the dumbest offers I've heard in a while.....

In all fairness though, there's nothing that makes a 50% off inherently moronic. It's the sub-50% offers that really make me grit my teeth and refrain from typing what I really think about their offer.

I have, on occasion, accepted offers as low as 60% or so, but few and far between (merchandise has been up for a long time and I simply want to move it, or I bought the coin so darned cheap that 60% is still a nice profit).

In general, I find that most offers I get are reasonable, 80% of BIN price or higher. Doesn't mean I necessarily accept them, but they're reasonable. If merchandise is freshly posted, I usually won't accept offers until they've been up a few weeks.

I really wish that Ebay's Best Offer (1) allowed more than one offer per buyer per item, and more importantly (2) had a counter-offer provision, like NEN has on their site.

Interestingly enough, I sell far more items through BIN than Best Offer, despite having Best Offer on every single item I sell...

We get our fair share of reasonable offers too. Some we take, some we don't.

I do think a 50% offer on a coin of nice quality is unreasonable. But, if it were something with problems or something from post-1900 Sweden, Netherlands or Belgium etc. marked at full catalog, then it's right in line. image

I offered 50% for this coin last time he had listed it,and it was rejected. Frankly I don't see it reaching more if listed no reserve.Text

Wow! I swear a few months months ago I received an offer with the exact wording and structure, except the price, as this one. Wish I had saved the message to compare. As I recall, the sender had less than 100 feedback and I had never heard of him before.

I do remember my response: "Ha, Ha - No!"

Sellers need to remember that buyers see/say the same thing.....

How many times have you looked at a coin on ebay and seen it priced (BIN/starting bid/ebay store) for more than double what it should go for?
I've seen it before....all it takes is 1 person to pay it and the seller scores big.

As said, at least the buyer (potential buyer) was polite. I've had some just toss out a lowball price and leave it at that. Nothing else said.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • Lowball offers on BIN items are actually OK with me, a simple return email saying no thanks will suffice. What I find most disturbing are these type emails.

<< <i>These usually sell for $20.00, I buy them all the time, I will give you $25.00 to close the auction now as i will be out of town when this auction closes, this is a good deal. >>

These type emails are always an indication the item will be going through the roof with bids in the last few minutes. I consider this email quite dishonest and tend to block that future bidder.
