Question for Jasp about 2007 Senior Committee nominees

Actually, this is a question to everyone but Jasp seems to know everything related to football image I believe the 2 senior committee nominees will be announced next month. Does anyone know who is in the final pool of candidates?

Regards,

Thanks Jasp...as always, you are a fountain of knowledge. I've actually started a list of HOF nominees who have been one of the 15 finalists (from 1970 to 2006) but never been voted in. What's funny is of the previous 4 nominees, only 1 had been previously nominated (John Madden). The other three (Friedman, Pollard and Wright) were never nominated, so senior nominees can abruptly appear without ever having been nominated in prior years.

Looking through old stats, I really think that John Hadl should be nominated. He stats were impressive, and he was one of the dominant QBs of the 1960's. Do you think his not being elected is because he played a majority of his career in the AFL? Just curious as to your thoughts.

One last question - I'm trying to track down a George Allen autographed card - and am having a tough time. Do you know why his autograph is so hard to find?

Probably because he died in 1990. Did he have any cards issued before that time?

I'd really like an autographed card (for my HOF auto'd card registry set) - which appears tough to find. Right now, there are 2 autographed items on E-bay; a 1968 Rams auto'd football and an autographed SB program.

I like Hadl as well, but I think what hurts him, is that he is looked at as a stats QB, not a dominant guy. He was selected to 6 Pro Bowls, but for of those were in the AFL years. Unfortunately, the AFL was regarded as a 2nd rate league, much like the USFL or CFL. So most voters don't give as much weight to AFL stats. Hadl did have some success in the NFL, but not enough to garner serious attention. He mostly played for losing teams during his NFL career (with the exception of his 1973 season with the Rams). I doubt either ever gets a whiff of the HOF..Not at the QB position...

Honestly, Jack Kemp may have been the best AFL QB who still gets overlooked. He went to 7 Pro Bowls and was an AFL MVP, he won multiple AFL championships and is the all time leader in almost every AFL passing category.

I'm not real big on autograph history and who's tough to find and all that. You probably know more than I do in that dept. I suspect Allen didn't sign alot of autos though, based on his personality and how he caried himself.

Greg, would an index card suffice or does it have to be a sports card? There was a guy locally that had a huge TTM index card collection (I picked up several) but the collection was split up over several stores that are a chain. I only frequent two of them, but if an index card will work, I'll put the call out for you. It's probably in there somewhere.
