book on World Gold: Krause or Friedberg?

I'm looking to get the most current edition of World Gold books, and would like to hear the forum's opinion on which one of these they prefer. FYI, i'm not all that interested in coins older than say 1750, and I had read that one is better than the other for this area. Do you feel that one is better than the other for coins 1750 and newer? thanks for any help folks!

Doug

oh, and just to stay on topic...........I just got this '77 Liberian $100 gold coin. .900 fine, 11 grams and I bought it recently for only 54% of melt value!!!! Yup, the deals are out there still, just waiting to be discovered. enjoy the rest of your weekend!

    Nice pick up.

Try here for the latest Krause.

I don't know when the latest issue of Friedberg came out.

The 7th edition Freidberg was published in 2003. It is considered by many to be the bible for gold coinage. A couple advantages it has over Krause is that you need only the one book - with Krause you need at least 4 - and Friedberg covers gold coinage back to ancient times. Krause does not.

Krause does have a single book for gold coins, I think it's as far back as the 1500s...here is the Amazon link for a copy.

I have a version of the Krause (it's in the other room and I'm too lazy to get up and find it for details, plus I'm about to be late for work). I've never even held a Freidmans in my hands, but I'm pretty sure I've heard it's the better book.

I love the Friedberg (2003) goes all the way back to the Ancients

If you are just collecting gold then I would suggest the Friedberg, but if there is any chance you will be buying non-gold coins you should buy a Krause set.
