No Ft Washington show in September

Saw this on the EPSCC website:

SCHEDULE ADJUSTMENT: Because we are now in July and due to logistical concerns regarding the new facility, we regret to announce that our show scheduled for September 29 - October 1, 2006 is cancelled. We will pick up with PHILLY 96, presumably on the December 1-3, 2006 dates previously announced.

When our announcement can be made, it will be posted here and in hobby publications. A mailing will be sent to dealers, club members, and those on our postcard mailing list.

  • That is unfortunate. Im pretty sure that they coulda made it happen(The sept show). I think there is alot more to this story and hope the promoter can get it together. Its really is a great show.

I don't mean to sound naive, but I'm not sure what more there could be to the story. The venue was sold and is no longer an exhibition hall, finding another space in this area to accomodate this show is not an easy task.

Since the winter show is only two months later than the fall show, it shouldn't be too big a deal. I went to the fall show last year and it seemed like a ghost town on Sunday. Everyone was home watching the Eagles game.

That's very disappointing. I hope that things can be worked out to still have the December show...the Fort shows are really about the only shows worth attending anymore on the East Coast.

I'm goin up to the "East Coast " National in August at the West Chester County Center in White Plains, NY. It makes the Fort look small. chaz

Yes, I know about the "East Coast National" but that show in no way, shape, or form compares to Fort Washington shows. Those White Plains shows have been going downhill for years, and now that Jim Ryan bought the shows from Rothstein there is a chance they will improve...but, especially with respect to vintage, hardly any of the Fort dealers set up there. PSA used to go to the shows in White Plains up until around 2003, but now you only see GAI set up there (which says a lot).

  • Did PSA grade on-site at this show?

I don't believe PSA ever graded on-site, just collected submissions. Does anyone know dates of the White Plains show(s)??

From what i understand a new Expo center is slated to be open hopefully by the end of July , in the former Agere buildind close to Reading Pa . I think The former director of the Ft Washington building will be taking over the building here in Reading . They are trying to work out deals with the exhibitors from the Ft Washington shows to have them come to the new expo center. I believe the sports card show will eventually come to the new expo center . WOO HOO great for me i only live 10 minutes from the new center . Hopefully i am correct and the sports card show continues its great tradition . ....... Jim

looking for 1988 Fournier estrellas stickers , 1985 Prism Jewel stickers , anything Jesse Owens .

August 17 - 20. White Plains show is huge. I have not been there in a couple of years but I don't know where that other guy is getting off saying that it isn't a good show. I will let you all know when I come back from it. chaz
  • White plains years ago and white plains now are 2 totally different animals.

    Edited to add:

The local reading paper has run a story stating that all the conventions held in the fort washington expo center have agreed to relocate to the reading convention center. i for one hope so. i can take some of my friends from around the country to some of my local joints then.

I'm not saying White Plains isn't a good show - but if you have never been there, and are expecting a Fort Washington type show - you will be very disappointed. Vintage is very tough there - there are only a few dealers who bring the same EX-MT stacks every time. There's a bit better modern selection, and a few wax dealers, but this show's glory days were 10 years ago. They used to hold the shows on the upper level of the center (which is bigger) but recent shows are now held in the basement (which is smaller, and suits the smaller show better). It used to be a Rothstein show, but it is now run by a LI promoter who also has something he calls the "Long Island National". It's nice to see someone trying to improve what was a dying show, but they have a long way to go to be mentioned in the same category as the Fort.
