Auction ended. This was my mistake. My husband made some notes for me to post this auction and I misunderstood what he wrote down. I think he was just trying to explain the PSA system to me looking back at his notes. He thought the card might be anywhere from a PSA 9 - 7 if it were graded. I received some hostel emails from this auction so I'm ending it since I don't know enough about baseball cards. Anyway, I should have had him confirm the description before I posted but he was out of town on business. I apologize for the confusion. Again, sorry - my expertise is clothes (as you can see from past auctions) not baseball cards - just doing this for my husband. Thanks
it aint no 9-7.....more like 3-4
<< <i>hehe...well i just sent an email asking if it was psa 9...so i didnt badger the person...the response was:

This is interesting from one point.
You look at the auction description and see if the story adds up?
The pieces, IMO, are of a person who is clueless rather than a scammer.
Getting hostile ["hostel"] emails is kind of sad.
Lothar just "inquired" - a gentleman - anyone armed with these facts, that would get hostile, is "part of the problem" with ebay rather than part of the solution. Ebay goodguy cop? No.
Just imagine if that were your mom?

"This card belongs to my husband. Apparently, some kid traded it to him grade school in exchange for my husband doing his homework (what a guy!). I don't profess to be a baseball card expert by any stretch so here is the information. 1969 Topps card. Ernie Banks first base for Cubs. PSA 9. It has a little plastic sleeve that it's been in. I removed it to take the picture since the sleeve is a bit discolored. The card seems to be in great condition but I don't know what "mint" condition means exactly so I hesitate to use that word. It has just some very minor wear around the edges as far as I can tell. I'm happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability. Serious bidders only! Thanks! '

If she had left out: "..............don't know what "mint" condition means exactly so I hesitate to use that word;"
I might be able to agree with STONE.
She did not, I do not.
If she was being honest, she learned a good lesson. If she
is a scammer, she knows she is "on somebody's watched list."
Either way, a positive result was caused by "consumer activisim."
Scamsters come in all configurations: EVEN "wives/mothers."

I feel sorry for the family that they're having to sell such a sentimental item.

This was the "top" piece of the story that I am going on - if she was setting someone up - she would not have given such a good pic?
A lot of the scammers that people post here come up with a "fuzzy" pic/scan as part of the act.
If she is a scammer - I agree - she learned a lesson.

This is not a scam but a simple mistake. Not everybody on eBay is out to get YOU.
Not everybody on eBay is out to get YOU."
/////////////////////////////////////////////////
You are probably right; just an error.
On a percentage basis, almost no one on eBay
is out to get anybody. But, when 200,000,000
folks are allowed to use the "venue," it does
not take a real large percentage to spoil the
stew for everybody; and breed unwarranted
suspicion in many.

<< <i>Look like PSA 1 (OC) maybe PSA 2 (OC) at the best. >>
JC
I don't think you can get an OC qualifier with a 1 or 2 - it's built into the grade - I believe?

MK and MC seem to be the only Qs that are not considered
within the general grading standards.
Thus, while you could
have a 1 - 10, that was MK/MC, you could not have a PSA1 (OC),
unless - remotely possible - the 90/10 threshold was not met.
That is because if the card did not make the 90/10 range, it
would likely get the MC.
Again, there are NO minimum standards in ref to the MC and MK.
It either is, or it is not.
QUALIFIERS:
PSA will grade nearly every card submitted. Cards having significant flaws will receive "qualified" grades as follows:
OC (Off Center):
When the centering of the card falls below the minimum standard for that grade will be designated "OC." PSA determines centering by comparing the measurements of the borders from left to right and top to bottom. The centering is designated as the percent of difference at the most off-center part of the card. A 5% leeway is given to the front centering minimum standards for cards which grade NM 7 or better. For example, a card which meets all of the other requirements for PSA MINT 9 and measures 60/40 off-center on the front automatically meets the PSA front centering standards for MINT 9. If a card meets all of the other requirements for PSA MINT 9 and measures 65/35 off-center on the front, it may be deemed to meet the PSA front centering standards for MINT 9 if the eye appeal of the card is good.
ST (Staining):
) Cards with staining below the minimum standards for the grade will be designated "ST."
PD (Print Defect):
Cards with significant printing defects will be designated "PD."
OF (Out of Focus):
Cards with focus below the minimum standards for the grade will be designated "OF."
MK (Marks):
Cards with writing, ink marks, pencil marks, etc. will be designated "MK."
MC (Miscut):
): Cards with a factory miscut, such as a diamond cut, or when another card's image is on the original card will be designated "MC."
