I'm sorry to hear about Wood. He was a tremendous talent but his mechanics were so flawed that you had to see this coming. I'm more surprised about Prior; when he first came up he reminded me a great deal of Tom Seaver, he was mature beyound his years and he was a terrific pitcher to boot. Just goes to show you how fleeting a carrer in the Majors can be. History is littered with stars that burned bright and fizzled out. It's the main reason I can't fault ballplayers for getting as much money as they can. One big injury and you're lucky not to be working at 7-11. Look at Brien Taylor, drafted by the Yankees back in the early 90s. He's working at a lumberyard now making $10 and hour.

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
  • Look at Denny McLain, last time I heard, he IS working at a 7-11 in my area...........but it is more to do with having to work while he is out of prison!!!

Don't you dare lump Prior with Wood, yet.

Prior is 25 years old, has a career record of 41-27. He has dealt with a 2 minor arm problems and on his way back, took a liner off the elbow and fractured it.

Wood I would clsoe the book on. I don't think he'll ever get back to the form when he struck out 20 Astros, his mechanics have killed his arm.

But Prior, you don't give up on a 25 year old kid with his kind of stuff. Prior will be a great pitcher. His mechanics are sound, despite the bad breaks he will recover and will be a great pitcher.
