Would you purchase an instant numismatic library from Gold Rush Gallery for $35,000?

LongacreLongacre Posts: 16,717 ✭✭✭
I found this advertisement intriguing because I have trouble putting a value on numismatic libraries (I wonder what QDB's library would go for). This ad does not give much details of the contents, but I assume that it might be focused on gold coins. Does anyone have any more information on this library? Any comments on the value. It's certainly worth a look.

Strikes me as a bit high, unless there is a lot of vintage stuff in there. This is more likely a dealer's working library than a pure numismatic literature collector. But, if I lived anywhere close I would definitely go have a look see.

Not likely. More apt to go after some local Joe's library that wasn't directly involved in the trade.

No. Selectivity is the key to putting a good numismatic library together. Would you really want 200 feet worth of numismatic books?

Yes. (I'm almost halfway to that already)

I think this is akin to buying a complete set of coins outright -- where's the fun of putting together the set for yourself? Even if I had the money, I wouldn't do that.

Sure are a lot of apostrophe auctions there. Looks like something which is more to be sold to a numismatic literature dealer than to someone who wants a jumpstart on a library.

Yeah, looks like he has 25 of them. I've only got 18, which is bad because there were only 10 of them. image

    12. Plus the Numisma '95 of Stack's/Rarcoa/Akers(?) is a quasi-apostrophe auction, but I don't have that one yet.

This is his personal library and it's no longer for sale.

I'm thinking somebody was weeding out their books and thought "Hey, I'll sale all this stuff as an instant numismatic library for $35K"!

If I had $35k burning a hole in my pocket I'd rather have This 1796 quarter than all those books
