The bider "jjfrench1938" entered 5 bids in increments of $10 to push bidder "liquidateem2004" up to his max bid of $500.05. One more bid and "jjfrench1938" will be the high bidder yet he stops, just 5 cents below the leader "liquidateem2004". This seems to have been an effort to push the bid to the max. It will be very interesting to see how this auction ends up.

Does shill bidding happen on eBay? You be the judge.

Doesn't look like shill bidding to me.

looks like someone doing some "research" before sniping.

jjfrench1938 would also have no idea where to stop without bumping the high bidder, sometimes people enter twenty bids in one dollar increments, sounds like a waste of time to me to do it that way?

I don't know if it's shill bidding or not but frenchy did know (or should have) what the high bid was. When he bid $500, the bid only jumped a nickel.

what would you call it if liquidateem2004 had a high bid of $499?

Agreed, it doesn't make sense that jjfrench stopped at $500 after smoking out the $500.05 max, but a sophisticated shiller would have been moving in smaller increments below $500 to avoid inadvertently taking the lead.

    Probably not a shill.

Some of my bids have looked like that.

But, it is a bit odd that the under-bidder
stopped at only five-cents under, and
    did not set a snipe.

Does not look like a shill bidder to me. Just looks like someone sniffing out the high bid then deciding against going any higher--The bidder-.Jfrench is in texas and the seller is in Illinois. I seriously doubt that this is shill bidding.image

I think what happened is jjfrench saw that the next bid would be high bid, and walked away from the computer. hours later, when the auction was getting ready to end, he came back, he had seen that the bidding was already higher than he wanted to go, and bowed out without another bid. I admit, I have done it that way, sometimes you get it, sometimes this happens.
