No. It could get damaged and/or be exposed to contamination and/or lost in the mail,, if shipped. It will also lose its older holder, rose colored glasses attraction (or "OHRCGA" for short).
I have two key-date quarters in the early green, not rattler, but the next gen after. Both will upgrade easily if submitted, but I leave them intact in the holders there currently in. One for the reason stated above and the mystique/suspense that surrounds those OGH holdered coins. When they go to auction one day, they will be regarde as fresh!! coins.''
I can see doing it. An old rattler doesn't fit in a PCGS box well. It probably is scratched. The coin is probably rotated in relation to the holder. It might look out of place if the rest of the set is in nice, clear, newer holders. Yup, I can see doing it.
Personally I probably wouldn't do it unless I was trying for an upgrade or it was part of a small set I wanted to display in a nice wooden display case.

If you intend to keep it, and like many who have previously responded, you don't like the aesthetics, by all means, reholder.
If think you might sell it, but consider it properly graded, leave it in the rattler - there're lots of people out there who buy the "OGH guaranteed upgrade" theory and will pay a premium for it, regardless of whether it truly deserves a higher grade.
I like the older holders since they are a part of numismatic history. Every year more and more of these holders are destroyed and they are becoming rare.

I like the old "rattler" holders. I think they have a type of charm or mystique about them. Plus, they will only get rarer with time as more and more are lost to upgrade attempts. The real key is finding rattlers that have really nice coins in them. Many buyers semm to go "mental" when they see a nice coin in an old PCGS rattler holder and I think these will be worth much more down the line.

Only if I had enough of them to make the shipment worthwhile. I don't like the "rattlers" and never did. The "rose colored glasses" factor is likely to fade as more and more collectors realize that most of the good ones have already been reholdered and all that remain are ordinary examples.
No. If I buy a rattler that will upgrade, I will crack it out and resubmit it. If I get one that will not upgrade, I will not waste my time sending it to PCGS and waiting eons to get it back.

Just like those Kennedy's you admire so much. Russ, where's your sense of consistency?

The size of the holder is just a pain.
I have only owned 4 and had them all reholdered. I didn't submit them just for reholdering, so 2 of them actually upgraded. Worth the trouble to me.
Lot's of folks seem to seek these holders out. I try to avoid them unless the coin is 'special'.

The OGH holders aren't cheesy and ugly like the rattlers.

<< <i>Why would you consider it? >>
Because the holders are cheesy and ugly.

I already regret resubmitting the first gen and ogh holders than I did have. A sure upgrade is one thing, but anything else should sit tight.

I do agree with, Russ, however. The rattler holder looks cheesy, does not fit into boxes or stack with other coins well, etc.
I got's a bunch of the 2nd gen OGH's.
I just wouldn't bother to send it in for new clothes afterward.
