Couple other sweet ones in there... finally got an 8 on a 72 Cash, couple 9's on Bazooka Mantle's, 66 Bazooka McCovey 10, and the 64 Venz. leader cards graded higher than I was anticipating.
The one card they wouldn't grade is a 77 Venezuelan Ryan, and all I asked was that they just authenticate it. Called cust. service, the girl was a ditz and no help and unwilling to find out why it wasn't graded. They have graded 77 Venz. stickers before so I don't understand it. Off to SGC it will go, they'll be glad to take my $10 just to slab it.

Couple other sweet ones in there... finally got an 8 on a 72 Cash, couple 9's on Bazooka Mantle's, 66 Bazooka McCovey 10, and the 64 Venz. leader cards graded higher than I was anticipating.
The one card they wouldn't grade is a 77 Venezuelan Ryan, and all I asked was that they just authenticate it. Called cust. service, the girl was a ditz and no help and unwilling to find out why it wasn't graded. They have graded 77 Venz. stickers before so I don't understand it. Off to SGC it will go, they'll be glad to take my $10 just to slab it.

on the issue of "slabbed/authentic."
They would be doing the "hobby" a great
service. MANY trimmed cards - that otherwise
end up being used for fraudulent purposes -
would find happy homes in PSA slabs. And,
PSA could keep the money instead of issuing
vouchers.

I do not speak Spanish well, but have acquired some of the cards from people who speak little to no English. Fortunately, there are programs on the internet that will take typed English text and translate it into typed Spanish text, so communication via e-mail is much easier. It's not perfect translation, a little broken, but good enough to be understood.
As far as why the cards are so difficult to find in decent condition:
1) They were printed on cheaper cardstock in Venezuela, for the most part no gloss was applied to the face of the cards. The cheaper cardstock rounded easily at the corners and stained easily from even mild handling because there is nothing to protect the surface.
2) Beginning in 1964, paper albums were issued and designed to have the cards glued into them. Many collectors complied, especially in 1964 and 1966, thus the vast majority of Venezuelan cards from these years can be found with evidence of glue on the back or tape on the front.
3) The wax packs they were issued in were sealed with glue - the back card of nearly every pack was damaged from the glue when the pack was opened. So, 1 in every 5 or 6 cards were damaged before even being handled.
4) There was no good way to store the cards to prevent them from damage.
5) It was also common for kids to write things on the cards, such as some sort of mark to signify that the card belonged to them, or use a rubber ink stamp of their name and stamp it on the card.
For every card here that graded 4, 5, 6 and 7 in this order - if someone was down in Venezuela searching for them, you would need to literally throw out 10-20 of each card before you found one nice enough to grade at least a 4. I consider PSA 4 to be an above average grade for a Venezuelan, PSA 3 is average if there is no surface damage.
