hi, I am trying to sell some coins my brother had for years . my question is this: what is the best method for me to sell . to reach collectors and not dealers. one local guy bought some coins from me using a dealers blue book offering bottom line. I grant u this , these coins are not graded but some are without a doubt uncirculated or vf. I'm not out to make a killing here,, just like to get fair price. am i dreaming or should i just put them on the lousy ebay auction and let em go . appreciate any feedback

The first mistake many new people to coin collecting do is try to make them nice and shiey. That ruins there value.
Then learn what you have the Red Book is a great Start.
Then if you still want to sell them learn to take detailed pictures, and it is free to link pictures into the BST board.
If they don't go there then maybe you will be ready and able to make a good listing on eBay that might get you what they are worth.
And BTW
Just a few remarks speaking from past experiences. I agree whole hardly with the last post. First and foremost do not clean the coins. Leave them as they are.
1) Next would understand what you have BEFORE considering to sell. Make a list, research the coins a few at a time, determine grades, get opinions from this board or others, then you can establish a value. There are many resources including PCGS website, greysheets, coin world values to target rough value. Search Heritage past auctions to understand market value. Look at ecoinage.com for several auction results.. The time spent researching could be worth thousands maybe more.
2) Selling, hopefully I won't offend anyone, rightfully so dealers need to make money to stay in business so selling them to a dealer unless you want to move them quickly is probably not your best approach. Selling them on this board or through a reputable auction house (Stack's for raw coins if you plan to keep them raw) seems to be the best approach. EBAY, The thing I have learned about ebay is unless you are a regular seller with a reputation of selling coins, the bids can be very low. I know I learned the hard way from actual ebay experience... If selling on the boards is too much hassle for you, then another approach to consider is consigning them to a dealer... Most will do it for 5-7%...
Once again, understand what you have before selling. You might be sitting on a real rarity... Get mulitple opinions... Opinions are free on this board and there are numerious experts willing to offer an opinion...
Good luck
