My rare card purchase

This is arguably the most difficult card of the 1966 set. There are only 3 9's NQ. The last one sold for $721 in September 2004 and it was as close to an OC as there can be without getting the tag.
And now $709 later I own this one.
As a trivia question that is former Boston Manager Jimmy Williams in the card. (why oh why did i leave pedro in to pitch in game 7 of the 2003 alcs?)
1966 Cardinal Rookies
In fact at the Bill Goodwin auction last month a PSA 8 fetched over $500 pre-juice!
Same Card-PSA 8

I can't believe how sharp it is - and the color is off the chart!
Congratulations on a superb card.

Just kidding.
You have quite a card.
Congrats.
BTW, as we Red Sox fans know ALL too well, it wasn't Jimy Williams, but rather Grady Little, who left Pedro in too long.
Sweet card !
i am a dope. jimy was in houston in 2003 thanks for the correction
i checked baseball-reference.com and it is the same person as the manager. it looks like a typo as he was always listed as j-i-m-y.
he did play on the 1967 st. louis team that won the world series. he got into one game (in the season not the series) and went 0-2.
i wonder if he got a ring?

Don't mean to rain on your parade, but in August there is more of Fritche's 60's vending coming out of the Maestro auction. He is sitting on a ton of 60's vending. chaz

But for now...
He's livin' large and takin' charge!
i am not too worried about that. those vintage vending boxes are pure speculation for people with too much money on their hands. imho no better than a lottery scratch-off. would i love to dig into one of course-but not at those prices.
a card in the hand is worth more to me than some OVERPRICED vending boxes that have been sitting for 40 years getting bumped around. when larry's vending yield a bunch of SP PSA 9's and 10's i'll get an umbrella for the rainy parade!
i am no expert on vending from that time period? did they come in series back then? if there is a 7th series vending boxes from that era someone is going to write a big check for that one.
try buying a vending box from the 80's and see how many cards are OC and miscut or generally damaged due being in a warehouse. cards 15-20 older will have a worse fate.
will this be the last time this card gets graded a 9-i doubt it but i don't see them flooding the market either because of larry fritsch.
where are all of the high quality cards from his last auction at mastronet cosigning the vending?
Most of it is crap! Stained, opened, searched, cards pulled in the past 40Plus years. Don't hold your breath on this vending affecting the 60's market.

BigCrumbs! I made over $250 last year!
For your sake I hope they never find another
I believe GAI labels Wax Packs - "Authentic - Unopened", but labels vending boxes "Authentic - Case Fresh"
What happened to the unopened on vending labels?? and what does "case fresh" really mean since its on every vending box label.
I believe GAI has sidesteped the question on vending boxes being unopened or not.

I really couldn't tell you. All I know is that there is alot of 60's vending in Fritche's warehouse. I talked to someone who went in the warehouse and he said you could see cases and cases of 60's vending stacked to the ceiling. What we saw back in April with the Mastro auction is the tip of the iceberg. chaz
