1963 British-American Ryder Cup program

Hi, all. I've been stumbling around for a few days looking for an answer and found this place.
I hope you can at least point me in the right direction.
I am at a loss as to where to even begin to look for this. My
grandmother recently passed away and after going through her stuff I
found a 1963 British-American Ryder Cup program. It is in nearly
pristine condition. There are a couple of pages that have been cut for
one reason or another. Apparently my grandparents went to the
tournament. It was held here in Atlanta at the East Lake Country Club
which is also the current site of the PGA Championship. There are
several autographs in here, too. They are:

(British)
Harry Weetman
David C Thomas

(American)
Arnold Palmer (!) also Captain that year
Bill Casper, Jr
Tony Lema
Gene Littler
Dave Ragan, Jr
Julius Boros
Dow Finsterwald
Billy Maxwell
Johnny Pott
Bob Goalby

The spine isn't broken. and the colors are still fairly vivd (a little
faded but not much). there are some great articles about Atlanta and
DeKalb County. The one about Atlanta was written by the then mayor
Ivan Allen Jr.

My question is, where in the world do I even start looking to get this
appraised? I had actually offered to donate it to East lake CC with a
proviso that they put a plaque or something about my grandparents.
They were both very active in the Atlanta golf community and grandpa
was fairly well known in some celebrity circles here as well. (He was
a fairly high brow men's clothier). But, quite frankly, the responses
I got from the club's president just left me a little cold on the
whole thing. He'd like to have it, he just didn't really seem to care
all that much.

I would think that the autographs (esp Arnie's) would in themselves be
worth a fair amount. If this is something that is totally out of your
league, can you at least point me in a direction? I have no idea
where to start.

Thanks
Jerry Ferguson

    Hi Jerry

First I would like to welcome you!

    The program sounds really nice.

There are some deceased people on the list that I know of - but that's about all I can say.

We have very few golf collectors here - unfortunately.

Golfcollector is the only boardmember I know - hopefully he will be by.

One suggestion would be to send the program to PSA/DNA for the authentication of the signatures - this will further validate the overall authenticity of the item.

Also, if you are looking for value? I would check ebay and see if the program has come up for sale and also check for something similar with respect to the autos.

Good luck and I hope one of the 'clubheads' come over and give input.

I only responded so you know we care but in my case - kind of dumb!

Given the damage to pages within, I suspect the real value is the sigs.

Palmer is still around and signs often so the value for him would be due to the age of the auto.

As stine said, deceased auto's always add value. PSA/DNA authentication is the way to go as it would greatly
    increase what value is there.

my guess would $300-$400 range with auth, half that without.

    nice item either way.

    Loves me some shiny!
  • Thanks a bunch for the replies. I will definitely contact PSA about this and go from there. I have found a couple of dealers here in Atlanta that I might contact at least as far as who to go to for appraisal. I am far too suspicious about having a dealer do this for me. Maybe I shouldn't be, but I am. In looking around, this seems to be a pretty rare item, so I am pretty excited about it.

Thanks again. I'll let you guys know how it goes. This is the only time I have ever had anything that might be worth anything at all, so I'm kiind of lost here.
