Teletrade auction - 1698 taler in MS-62

There is an interesting 1698 Austrian Taler coming up in the July 10th Teletrade auction. It is DAV-1003 graded NGC 62. I am curious to see how it finishes at the end. I do not get too many emails of interest from Teletrade regarding darkside material.

And since we're at TT, this Haiti 2c is listed for the third and last time I believe, it has a very high reserve, otherwise it's a very tempting coin.

So, a TT seller might buy back a coin several times with a high reserve (presumably paying the 5% fee each time)? Would the prices realized be posted along the way or would it simply be treated as not sold?

I can't say for certain without the coin in hand, but I believe the MS grade might be justified. IMO, it is probably a weak strike or perhaps struck towards the end of the die's life.

If you can see anything in the poor picture, here is my 1699 Hall taler with similar weak areas. NGC called it AU-58.

Here is another 1701 Hall with a stronger strike. NGC called it MS-62.

worldcoinguy, your 62 looks better than a 62.

Not that I have any experience on these or anything, but since I happened to temporarily own 4-5 talers this year, two of which were I believe really nice, both from dr Kurt Peters collection, it seems to me that Austrian talers are graded very conservatively given their age and minting process. In particular, there are many AU58s that have (at least) the eye appeal of 62s, if not the technical details as well, and 62s that look like 63s or more, perhaps someone more experienced could shed some light here.

In anycase I was very, very disappointed with the grades that the two best talers of mine received.

Having seen these coins, I agree, they were harshly graded.

Looks pretty nice, I have on in a 65 holder that also has some strike weakness.

Allow me to second that. Both have absolutely superb Olde World toning, and I thought one of them could easily be a "63" by the strictest standards.
