Manny ditches all star game - again?

This is the third time he's missed the game...and he supposedly has a knee thing that will prevent him from playing.

Why does he continue to blow off the game?

It's just "Manny being Manny!" Just goes to show that he can give a rat's arse about what the fans want. Now, if it were another player, from another city, and he did that, can you imagine the outrage. Imagine the outrage, if Ichiro decided not to show up three times, then you would have people speaking out about how "the foreigner" has no respect for the game, or the history of baseball itself!!!!

Im glad he is not playing. I wish he would take his name off the ballet though to be fair. Let somebody else who plays hard get in there.

Terry Francona handled it correctly - he informed MLB right away after the announcement that Manny wasn't going to play, so they could select someone else. It's more important to have him healthy for the next 82 games, and the three day break will reportedly help him with some nagging injuries (he's been coming out of games early, too - when the Sox are way ahead).

Do I agree? Well, he's not the first person to do this (Pedro for example), and I personally could care less about the AS game - I would rather see him healthy for the second half. But, I can see how some fans might be put off by it.

I don't care much for the all star game either, but if he is going to keep pulling out of the game, then he needs to ask to have his name not put on the ballot.

I agree, that a player's health is much more important than an exhibition, but his continued absence after being voted in seems a bit childish on his part.

Just b/c he decides to no show shouldn't mean his name shouldn't be on the ballot. The fans shouldn't vote for him if the fans deem it that serious. I don't think it is a big deal.

Three times is a trend...he obviously doesn't think it's a big deal to show up, so he shouldn't care if he's not on the ballot is all.

Well, then the fans shouldn't vote for him. Even if he's not on the ballot their is still a write in and knowing how many ppl realize that he's great he'd make it in as a write in. It's the fans choice to vote.
