Had a really cool experience tonight.

My 8 year old daughter and 5 year old son wanted to open some baseball cards. Neither of them knows anything about baseball yet but they know I collect them. I went in the attic and pulled a couple of 1989 and 1987 Topps rack packs and about 28 1990 Topps wax packs.

They started opening them and kept asking "is this a good player" or "is this a good team"? I would tell them when they got a good player like Clemens or Ripken and just watch their excitement as they said WOW....Rachel I got Roger Clemens or hey Mikey I got an all-star card. I intend to buy some cheap wax for more of these nights.

The best to watch was at different times when one of them got a duplicate of a good player they gave one to the other because they already had one. This was a really fun night.

By the way, I did look at each 1990 Topps card in case one of them were lucky enough to get the No Name Frank Thomas.......no luck though.

I will take another night like this over opening any vintage myself.........even 52 topps high number packs.

Ah....the joy of being a parent.

Thanks for reading.

I think I would first go through a "Monk" stage where my first impulse would be to grab the Clemens before they could damage the corner; the next stage of letting them do what they want with the cards because it's their fun, not mine, would be a great lesson for me. Thanks for giving me that insight!

    Thanx for sharing!

Sounds like you had a great evening.

When my son was about 9, I used to set up one weekend a month at a small show - we had a great time and it didn't matter whether we made money or not.

Couple that with little league? Nothing could be better!

My daughter, the artist, had fun with these aptly-named players a few years ago! I keep them in some pages and pull them out once in a while for some real laughs...

My 11 year old nephew had his birthday party at a card shop for a Yu-Gi-Oh tournament.

As a party favor, the shop owner gave the kids a '87 Topps baseball pack. Alex opened the pack and then tried to eat one of the cards. He said "the package says "bubble gum cards".

    Priceless.
