1981 Squirt Cards

I've ran into a really neat find. I have about 50 of these bad boys (2 per sheet). They’ve never been in circulation. Some of the bottom cards have dings from where they were stored but for the most part in really nice shape.

So the two questions I've got for you are these.

One- What’s the best way to separate or cut these cards?

Two - How do they grade them? Do they like for you to tear them out and have the perforated edges or do they like a smooth cut?

And I guess theirs a third question?

Any pitfalls one must look for when trying to find a high grade on this particular issue?

All help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Joe

    Joe:

They have to be separated by the perforations. If you cut them, it will be "Evid. of Trim"

That said - my limited experience is that:

    A) Centering must be superb
    B) Perforations must be clean - but clearly not trimmed
    C) Look for surface problems, too.

    ms,
if the bottom card was dinged very bad and not a candidate for grading, do you think you could trim the top card (top and bottom) leaving the perforations in tact (say 1/8") and psa would grade it?

    Thanks,

    David (LD_Ferg)

Figured I'd throw my Garvey Squirt up on this thread. My scan isn't the best, but I can tell you the perferations aren't perfect so I don't think they are too strict on them. Also, PSA will use the dreaded card condom on these, so if you detest that you may want to reconsider. Not sure what PSA's criteria is for these cards, but there are none graded intact. 129 cards have been submitted, with majority of the grades falling in the 8, 9 and 10 range. Just make sure to send in the clean ones!
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

why couldn't you just separate both the top card by its perforations without trimming?

It is extraordinarily difficult to trim perfectly straight across perforations - and if it looks off, it likely will not be graded

Here's my Buckner - I have the set also in the original wrapper. Tried a couple times on ebay and no luck getting rid of them. Nice cards but low demand I guess.

....mind in the gutter, like the rest of us.

I do remember plucking these from the grocery store soda aisle when I was in my teens. There they all were, just hanging off the ends of eight packs, all lined up, waiting for me and my brother to come waltzing by and snatch all of them.
I also held on to them for quite a while and tried selling them in lots on ebay with super cheap openers, with no luck.
  • Does anyone have a picture of a graded 2-card Squirt panel they can post. I have one I would like to get graded, but do not know if I should separate the 2 cards from the top advertisement panel that has a hole in it which I assume went around the neck of a Squirt bottle. Thanks for your feedback!
