Somebody educate me about 1978 OPC.............

I bought a '78 OPC set for $45. Certainly NM-MT overall, and some definitely gradeable stars, such as Yaz, Carlton, Schmidt, Rose, etc, possible 9's. Some minor stars are possible 9's. The Murray is badly off center, so it's not worth much and needs replaced.

Did I get a decent deal? Almost all of these cards have super sharp corners and gloss......the only issues are some have tilts and are off-center, etc. (would estimate about 30% of the set is like this).

In my opinion only because I have had many 78 OPC cards in the past you got a good deal providing that they are as you state.Sharp corners on OPC are an exception instead of the rule and many are OC and have very rough cuts which usually will not grade the card down. The Murray is notorious for being off center in both the American and Canadian version.

If some of the 9's pan out, I'd say you did alright. Did you buy to grade and resell, or is it for yourself? I'd be interested in any 9's you get back.

I bought it mainly to grade and resell. There are some commons as well that are certainly candidates for 9's. There are some with rough cuts but overall it is an extremely clean set, probably put together by hand in '78 and then left alone.

I will post some scans soon.

the commons aren't worth the grading fees in 9's right now so I would say hold off or grade them if you are willing to wait and have them ready for the next opc buyer to come along. that happens once every 2 yearsimage
